"Land and Freedom" seems to closely follow some of the experiences of Orwell in the SCW.

Band of Brothers.
If you watch it in one sitting it is a very long film…

Second for Land & Freedom. It has the feel of a fly-on-the-wall documentary.

On a similar vein, I've always liked 84 Charlie MoPic for that reason, though I've no idea how 'accurate' it is.

12 O'Clock High was also used for leadership training at RAF College Cranwell… I remember the start and the end… The middle bit was a welcome opportunity for some sleep. :)

If you think that, you've never watched it with an 8thAF vet. My Dad (360BS/303BG) could never watch it all the way through.

The opening scene of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN depicting the Normandy beach landing … of course the rest of the movie is all Hollywood.

Why didn't I remember some of these. Could catch.

Das Boot
Paths of Glory
Glory
Flags of Our Fathers
Letters from Iwo Jima
Glory (sort of)
The Light Horseman

Add:

All Quiet on the Western Front (Both Versions)
Gallipoli
The Alamo (2004)
Tora Tora Tora

If made for TV counts:

The Lost Battalion
When Trumpets Fade

This process is so slow. I think I am repeating myself.

rmaker,

I'm sure it's a great film, though sticking exhausted officer cadets in a nice, warm, dark cinema with comfy seats wasn't the way to get us to appreciate the film…

:)

12 O'Clock High was also used for leadership training at RAF College Cranwell… I remember the start and the end… The middle bit was a welcome opportunity for some sleep. :)

Was it not the case that 12 O'Clock High was also used for leadership training at RN College Dartmouth?

I am afraid the tenor of the posting here has lost me. Thus I have never seen the film but those who have tell me that BLACK HAWK DOWN is way off being historically accurate even if a great film, just like BRAVEHEART (see the SOCIETY OF ANCIENTS journal for a thorough excoriation of that film).

Jemima Fawr06 Jun 2015 5:41 a.m. PST

Hagen, see my last post. Yes, it's the same film. I don't think any RAF officer cadet has ever seen all of the film in its entirety.

American Sniper -- so accurate that Coach Harbaugh was assailed by Moslem students at Michigan for wanting to show it to the football team.
