The Nerfs thread got me thinking about the need for some nice looking, wild, alien creatures in 15mm/18mm scale. I think those Nerfs look great for domesticated fauna, but I can't think of too many alien creatures in this scale, that are suitable for encounter scenarios (Traveller-esque games), and/or as background scenic for games. I'm discounting sentient, two-legged creatures, and those really "out there" creatures that look more like plants, and/or tumbleweeds/tumbleweeds with fur. Are there any good predators, herbivores, omnivores that are alien-looking that might be useful for the above, but not so alien as to be totally unrecognizable, or just plain silly? Creatures that hunt singly, in small groups, or that travel in large packs would all be useful. Mushroom men/creatures don't really do it for me. I'm thinking 3+ legs, some sort of reasonably familiar body shapes, that might be suitable for the above games. |

you have already seen the stuff I suggested on the Nerfs thread. This figure works as an alien fauna. Available here link
In addition the monster hunter figures from Japanese Anime make great alien fauna. Kind of expensive but really nice. I have a bunch bought on ebay. auction auction auction |

Personally, I'd go for plastic dinosaurs, with new color schemes that fit with your flora. If you get some of the more out there species with plumes and bills and their backs and heads, they can look reasonably alien. |

Never under estimate head swaps, green stuff and fiddly bits. Even clumsy green stuff applications can make reasonable animal bits. Nature is seldom neat and tidy |

To help close the circle, here is the link to the Nerf thread: TMP link Like would love to see more herds of odd critters offered. I am trying my hand at modify Dime-Store toys with a soldering iron. Not all miniatures need to be deadly monsters! |

Yea, I think we need more "creatures", with at least some resemblance to ones we know, and/or a certain alien look. Appreciate the puff-ball look pic above, but those are a bit too alien for me. I'd classify them more as flora (plants). Perhaps I am being "leg-ist", but most terrestrial creatures I'm familiar with have legs. I do really love the Traveller Hivers – wouldn't have guessed they were so sentient and clever, if not told they were. Creatures along those lines, and the Khurasan alien cattle are really what I'm after. |

Thanks for the pics, and links SirFjodin. Some of those are certainly interesting, and might work. Hard for me to take those Krators seriously though. They're just too cute, even with those sharp teeth. The Eytarans, and some of the others are quite good though. |

People keep forgetting Reviresco's 1/72 scale sci-fi fauna: link link link Available here: link In terms of size they will work out just fine as larger fauna in 15mm.
