Warlord have announced they're repackaging British and French line (plastics), going from 36 to 24 per box. Some will welcome this. However, at the same time as reducing the number of figs by a third, they're only dropping the price by a fifth (£20 to £16.00 GBP), an approximate rise of 10p per fig. Does this mean Warlord is looking to increase prices generally? Does it mean we should snap up existing boxes whilst they're (comparatively) cheap?

It is pretty much a price rise of 20%!

I expect the boxes to get bigger and say "New and Improved" on them.

And if you are going for a quite common 36 man battalion you are stuffed and will have to buy more figures individually or more boxes making such a unit more expensive. And we have zero inflation at the moment!

Keep in mind that those boxes are not pure plastic, but a mixture of plastic and metal models.

For example, the French set seems to go from 32 to 20 plastic models, but the number of metal models stays at 4 per box.

I guess they've switched over to modeling post-Leipzig French battalions…

Don't know if this is a contributing factor, but the Warlord French Line had seven flank figures instead of eight(though you could use one of the metal command figures to even out the number). If they drop the number down to 20 plastic figs per box, maybe that helps with getting the flank (elite) figure ratio per box more to gamers liking (especially if the player chooses 24 figure units for Black Powder). Just a thought.

I got a box pf the Peninsular War ones and was quite taken aback by how good value it was – -£20 for 36 miniatures, including 6 metal command, metal flagpoles & those tassel things, and a sheet of flags. An alternative metal command from them cost £10.00 GBP too.

Still, If I'm right there's 5 flank in a 24 unit so in a 6 company battalion it's 3 short of the right proportion… odd

Only 5 creme eggs in a box now, same price. Just saying.

And the Evil Empire dis this with their LotR ranges, halving the number of sprues in a nox and not halving the price. Shoddy in my not so humble opinion.

Yep, this time of zero inflation

dayglowill31 May 2015 4:12 a.m. PST

Zero inflation on the consumer prices index, however inflation on the price index for plastics in Europe appears to be over 8% at the moment.

And the general feeling with plastic figures is the plastic cost is pennies per box – the cost is the mould. So add 8% to pennies…

At these new prices per figure, metals are almost as cheap……

I have a few boxes of Warlord, and tbh Ceteris Paribus I would choose Perry or Victrix over Warlord every time. I'd also happily see the metal figures ditched in favour of plastic command and a sensible number of sprues in a box.

My Victrix Austrians are perfect in terms of box completeness, including both unit and mounted command with different heads for the latter for battalion command or mounted General/ADC.

That price comes very close to the cost of an equal number of metal figures. Not such a value going forward.

Marc the plastics fan06 Jun 2015 8:28 a.m. PST

Yep, seems crazy. They have invested in the moulds, so aurely discounting would make more sense, to go for volume

24 figures is a good size for packaging. Most war gajme rules work between 12 and 36 figures. 24 is a good compromise. A number of rules like Black Powder and Grand Battles Napoleon can use 24 figure units for British and French, so even better bonus!

Marc the plastics fan07 Jun 2015 12:59 p.m. PST

Great bonus. Less figures more cost.

Must be me
