OK. I just received 1/4800 Allied Aircraft Pack from Tiny Thingamajigs earlier today. Man they are tinier in person!! LOL. I don't how some people can paint them. My question is how do you mount them to represent aircraft formations? On a clear plastic square on a base? How high?

I have seen a very nice mounting of 1/2400 aircraft on the tips of short stalks of heavy test fishing line.

They were mounted on stalks of fishing line about half an inch high, set on clear plastic bases. They were mounted with a flight (1 to 4 aircraft) per base. The aircraft come out looking really nice. Also, because the line is flexible, it turns out to be a pretty robust way to mount 'em.

Not sure it would work equally well on 1/4800, but I expect it would.

The method is described in some detail on the GHQ forums by poster cbovill (Chris Bovill). Look for the Micronaughts thread. It's a great discussion of painting, basing, gaming and ship history that has been running for about 10 years now. So it's kind of long.

The aircraft mounting technique is first described on page 22 of the thread.

Hope that helps.

Do you know of a good source for the clear plastic?

I'm surprised moulding machines can even get that small!

I was too. But they seem to be very detailed for that size.

Well with my initial order of the Allied Aircraft Pack from Tiny Thingamjigs I have just ordered the 1/4800 Axis Aircraft Pack,

Per row of 12 aircraft in 1/4800
- Ro43 (x3 rows)
- 1 row w/ 6x Fi67 and 6x Ju87
- Bf109 (1 row)
- Re.2000 (2 rows)

- Heinkel He 60

And from the SNAFU Store the 1/4800 Deckpark IJN Alternative (FUD),
