To the Strongest is a recently published set of ancients-medieval rules which are innovative in a few respects that we really like. We are minimally adapting the rules for early modern and getting some great battles out of it. thirtyyears15mm.wordpress.com |

This is of great interest to me. Will you be posting your adaptations to the rules? |

Well this is certainly an interesting development. Phil |

If it worked well for ECW, it will probably work well for the Horse and Musket era too. You just have to figure out the effect of formation…or simply not worry about it. |

Great idea. I have a friend who might be tempted to play something like this… |

Hi and thanks Bevan. The rules run up to 1500 as written, but the mechanisms can be modified for later periods. Aside from ECW/TYW, I think they would lend themselves particularly well to the Seven Years War and War of the Spanish succession, where troops were often drawn up in multiple parallel lines. I do plan to address these periods in the fullness of time… Best Simon bigredbatshop.co.uk |

Oh no I wouldn't go as far as that. ;-) Unit types and weapons need to change by period. The core mechanic of card or chit driven activations at the heart of the rules, however, is very flexible and can be adapted to all sorts of purposes. There is a rumour that someone has adapted it for WW2! |

Good heavens! Do you really mean we have finally stumbled on the ONE set of rules that will work for all periods??? One rule-set to RULE them all and in darkness forever bind them. |

In my never ending search for a set of big battle ECW rules I like, I too would be grateful to know if you would share your variant for this set! Mollinary |

I would like to second mollinary's request! To The Strongest looks interesting, but I'm loath to purchase a set for a period I don't play… |

If you are in the UK you could come along to a show to see the ancients version running and I could talk you through how ECW would be different. I'm at Partizan on Sunday… I'll liaise with Bevan to draw up an a4 sheet with the changes needed for ECW. Best, Simon |

The other day I introduced a buddy of mine to a game of To the Strongest. We played Caesarian Romans against Germans and the barbarians squeaked out a close win. Then he said he enjoyed the rules and wondered if they could be extended to horse and musket. We discussed it and agreed it should certainly be doable. I too would love to see what new versions there may be out there. That said I'm really enjoying the Romans/barbarians matchup Ive got. |

I'm glad you are enjoying them! I might try to strip down the rules to take out the exclusively ancient material, and use what's left as a core on which renaissance, pike and shotte and Horse and musket rule sets could be built. |

Simon aka BigRedBat, I regret my work pattern (eves & weekends)makes it impossible for me to attend shows, or I would take up your kind offer. An A4 sheet of modifications for ECW would be most helpful. |

Hi Arthur, we'll see what we can do over the next few weeks. Best, Simon |

That would be great. Thanks very much. |

Simon, would love to see it too! |
