Comments or corrections?

I should have cross posted this one here as well as putting it in the Painting Guides forum.

I am trying to do some models of revolutionary cavalry and have realised I do not have a proper handle on this. I have been studying photos, and my conclusions are that

Federale cavalry:

a) invariably carry the carbine slung diagonally across the back over the left shoulder.
b) appear to have always carried a sabre, from the waistbelt.
c) not armed with a pistol.
d) ammunition carried in pouches rather than bandoleers

Revolutionaries:

a) never carry the carbine/rifle slung across the back, always in a holster under the leg; sometimes butt forward, sometimes butt back; mostly on the right side but one photo has it under the left, butt forward.
b) occasionally officers carried a sabre, under the left leg
c) often armed with a pistol, sometimes two
d) ammo is carried in bandoleers, around the waist and across the body in both directions; one, two and three (most frequent), four and even five at a time

Can anybody add information, suggest corrections, point to photos of other methods, provide evidence which confirms or contradicts please?

Thanks

Mike B

do as you see fit,men would adjust their kit to their own design when on campaign. You can always refer to the movies Villa rides =100 rifles and Bandido. The Federales, carrancitas, kept pretty uniformed, but there were so many factions. Good luck sincerely juergen c. olk

As Juergen says. The Revolutionarios would have been less consistent than the Federales, not necessarily having had military training of any sort. You can't get better than photographic evidence unless you have participants to speak with.
