I've added another warband to my Celtic Army, the eighth, and this is the front two ranks of it. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Celt; essentially I quite like a Celt that someone else has painted for me, but loathe painting them myself.

On Sunday I'll be bringing my entire Celtic army including the wagon laager, Boudica and some Romans to the excellent Partizan show in Newark. I'll be running a game using my "To the Strongest!" rules.

If you are there, please drop by and say hello, and even play for a bit if you have time!

Best, Simon

Great work

I have lots of Celts, but none quite so colourful

I like the attached general idea.

Martin Rapier28 May 2015 4:33 a.m. PST

Those are very nice.

If I never have to paint another Celt again it won't be too soon though. Why on earth can't they wear nice, neat uniforms in plain colours?

Looking good, BRB.

Craig Ambler28 May 2015 7:16 a.m. PST

Excellent. I have 3 warbands of 40 figures each in 15mm and agree with you. I hated painting them but they do look impressive on the table.

Saying that mine are not anywhere as well painted as yours.

Thanks

Craig

Thanks chaps.

Mike I am still 22 warbands behind you, so some way to go yet! That is an awful lot of Celts…

Funny you should mention that Simon, I'm now on the tenth warband and yep I hate painting them so I'm shipping them in from eBay.

Nice looking figs! Excellent paint jobs. If I get some Celts, will you paint them for me? Good job!

Simon those are nicely done, the large base achieves a sense of dynamism which every warband should have. Cannot see a carynx player? Like the idea of naming your leaders.

I am aiming for 4 warbands for Carthaginians and Syracusans. Have 2 already in my lead pile and looking to Victrix for the rest. Like you the thought of painting checks and stripes is holding me back! I think maybe at most 1 in 4.

Superb Celts Simon – really like the basing and casualties on these it's like a diaroma!

goragrad28 May 2015 8:14 p.m. PST

Very nice!!!

I have a couple of dozen Celts awaiting finishing touches, for about 8 months.

Getting the base colors is one thing, checks, plaids, and shield designs are something else…

BombAlleySAM28 May 2015 10:41 p.m. PST

They are really lovely looking chaps, I am envious – but they are still pilum fodder!

Caliban29 May 2015 2:05 a.m. PST

Jealous, I am.

Dexter Ward29 May 2015 4:29 a.m. PST

I doubt anyone much enjoys painting Celts. A couple of years back I painted up about 200 or so in 28mm.
I like the end result, but it was a tedious business!

Thanks all!

Garry- yes I have run out of Carnyx players, I must buy some more.

This Celtic army was started in 2003, and I add a bit every year. It's only now getting to a decent size (600 minis), but it will continue to expand as I gradually source suitable painted minis. Most of it will be at Partizan on Sunday and very likely it will become pilum fodder!

Best, Simon
