I'm looking to add some British soldiers to make life difficult for my Pirates. Like these guys:

picture

I'm interested in a variety of poses, and probably won't need more than 15. What are my best options? I'm not looking for a comprehensive listing (although I won't complain) but rather for personal preferences and recommendations. Historical accuracy is not an issue, as the project is set in a fantastical Hollywood Golden Age of Piracy setting.

Thanks in advance!

The uniforms in the picture are hybrids and contain elements of different styles from the early 1770s to the late 1790s, and the odd bit in between, so you won't find anything in any historical range to match them exactly. However, Black Scorpion produce very (very) similar figures for their own pirate range – if you don't mind £2.00 GBP a pop (more for command/character types). Currently there are two packs of Marines, numbered 1 and 3, so presumably there is a 2 in the pipeline somewhere.

If you want something cheaper, then any AWI British line infantry figures will do. Foundry might be a good bet, as they do figures in various firing and charging poses that don't have backpacks. The key differences from the uniforms in the stills are flat collars rather than the stand-up ones, and half-gaiters rather than the full versions. Two packs from any of those below will give you 16 figures, and a good number of pose variations.

ugh

But I am pretty sure they all wore white wigs like that. I am kidding.

Why not go with historical? Wargames Factory puts out a set of WSS infantry in plastic. Or if you like the "look" better, they put out AWI Brits in plastic, as does Perry.

Historical is fine by me! By historical accuracy I simply meant that I don't really mind if they're late 17th or mid 18th century etc.

Some good examples here already!

Get a bag of Old Glory AWI British advancing. Plenty of energetic poses if that's what you want. They are in the 1768 Warrant uniform, which is as close to the movie as you can get.

Or get a box of the Perry plastic British, in the shortened coat. Being multi part plastic, you can make your own poses.

For earlier in the century and "other" nations like Spain and France, I got a deal on a bunch of Wargames Foundry Marlburians. I painted them gray with lilac cuffs. They could have been anybody.
Or get the Wargames Factory box of Marlburians.

Old Glory have a nice small bag of ~1740 British Marines on the Pirate range in the baggy bathrobe with mitre cap uniform.

That should take care of most "regulars".

The real golden age was about 1715-22 so you may want to go with the Marlburians.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. The more I look into it, I'm starting to veer off in the direction of (funnily enough) historical accuracy instead of the look in the photo. Those older uniforms actually look fancier than the later ones.

It'll be interesting to see how you reproduce that specific drill manouevre…

I believe it's referred to in the regimental motto: Ubique.

Latin for "all over the place".

The Old Glory Marines are quite nice and the French and Indian Wars British are very good. Their Jacobite range stuff is not so good. You didn't mention a scale, so I assume you want 25/28mm.
