I painted my Armada fighters based on the tutorials and inspiration of Indierockclimber, which can be found here: TMP link TMP link The Rebels were the easiest to paint. I just painted them a very light gray. Gave them a thin black wash, and then picked out details like the engines and cockpit and astromech units. Then I added some colored squadron stripes, the engine glows (which really don't show up in pictures very well) and a little inking and they were done. X-Wings:
Y-Wings:
A-Wings:
And my favorites, the B-Wings:
And all of them together:
The Imperials were a LOT more work due to those blasted solar panels! I first painted them a light gray and gave the hull areas a black wash. Then it was painting all 984 separate panels! Yup with the basic set and the Imperial fighter expansion pack you have 984 black panels to paint! Inevitably this gets a little sloppy, so afterwards I went back with the same gray color and touched up the panel edges. Then it was adding the engine glows and a little inking (especially the cockpit windows which sometimes the wash doesn't get). A lot of work, but the results are very cool. TIE Fighter:
TIE Advanced:
TIE Interceptor:
TIE Bomber:
And the whole swarm:
I find that painting the Imperial fighters makes them a LOT easier to tell apart. A lot of work, but I'm glad I did it. Not sure I want to do any more, but I would need a much larger fleet before I could field all of these at once! |

They look fantastic Scott. This release has only just hit shelves here in NZ so I will be picking up mine this Friday. Lovely work. Cheers Anton |

Great work on the Fighters Scott I'm going to have to try that I also have a little help because I have some of the Fighters from the WOTC Starship Battles set. |

Excellent job, and I thank you for the quick run down, much appreciated. I also see that I'm not the only one who's seriously insane for thinking of painting the interior panels of the TIE's.:) As a side note, I curse you for making me aware of the Armada ships from Mel…I've just spent a considerable chunk of change thanks to that. No, it has nothing to do with my weak willpower when it comes to things Star Wars…nope, not at all…:) |
ScottWashburn | 26 May 2015 5:46 p.m. PST |
Oh, you HAVE to paint the interior panels on the TIEs! I mean you've already painted the 492 panels on the outside, what's 492 more? :) |
Moonbeast | 26 May 2015 5:56 p.m. PST |
Um…I'm in for a bit more of a world of hurt then that. I went nuts and purchased 5 Imperial squadron boxes in addition to the 6 squadrons that come in the core.:( I've also got some Avengers on the way…no thanks to you.:) |

Those look great! I just the ships first-hand for the first time at Gamex this weekend. I didn't realize that the fighters came unpainted. |

Those are great. I'm still working on mine but using Very Fine Point Sharpies to do them. link |

Sweet work. They will certainly liven up the table top. |

Would it be easier to paint the panels black and then paint between the panels grey? |
Thomas O | 27 May 2015 6:48 a.m. PST |
I am really trying hard to resist the temptation to get into this game and this does not make it any easier. I agree with "haywire" paint the panel all black and then paint the raised areas. |
Abrams Driver | 27 May 2015 6:50 a.m. PST |
Wouldn't it have been easier to do a really dark wash on the panels? Or, hell, paint 'em black, drybrush grey, then light grey, then go back over the panels with black? |
ScottWashburn | 27 May 2015 7:14 a.m. PST |
The next ones I do (if ever) I may try the all black first approach to see if it's any faster. I'm not sure it would be, but we'll see. |

I went nuts and purchased… Great! It's people like you that make it impossible for our store to order more… …so we can sell to people like you. ;->= NO one has done re-paints here that I'm aware of. I MUST post piccies around the gaming area. Doug |
Moonbeast | 27 May 2015 8:34 a.m. PST |
I have a full set of Rapidograph(?)technical pens laying around somewhere that I was thinking of trying on the panels.Might be a bit faster then painting them…the tips on the superfine pens are very fragile though, would have to be really careful. |

"Great! It's people like you that make it impossible for our store to order more…" Heh, sorry. It's a weakness…:) I'm thinking if Litko or Corsec can make adapters so the ships could be used on other bases (round, hex etc.) it would increase their versatility. The more uses for the miniatures the better.:) |
TheBeast | 30 May 2015 5:58 a.m. PST |
;->= Of course, the point was, it's people like you that keeps the store open. I'm sure the lads are sweating away cogitating just that, and perhaps some adapters to allow me to use some other ships in Armada. Somebody would have to come up with some stats, first. I'm hopeless… Doug |

Those ships look phenominal Scott. Most of my standard TIEs came with warped solar panel wings. Were you just really lucky or did you do something to straighten them out? |
Captain Gideon | 01 Jun 2015 11:42 a.m. PST |
Redcoat 55 I saw something on YouTube where this person was doing a painting tutorial and he said that the figures that had bent wings he dipped them in hot water and fixed them so hot water is the answer. |
ScottWashburn | 01 Jun 2015 11:49 a.m. PST |
Mine came a bit bent, but I just ignored it. After the paint job it really isn't that noticeable. |
Darkrazor | 02 Jun 2015 1:05 p.m. PST |
if I made decals for the Tie pannels would anyone be interested? It would sure save painting time. I could do rebel fighter stripes too. |

I would be interested in the decals Darkrazor. |

Darkrazor I also would like to get the decals as well. |

Nice job! I want to paint my fighters as well! I might have missed this, but did you mount the fighters on a temporary base to do your paint work? Thanks! |
sean68333 | 04 Jun 2015 3:03 p.m. PST |
I wasn't going to get any of these fighters because they aren't painted, but after seeing what you have done, I think I'm going to be getting some after all. |
