Interesting use of foam material as your building medium. Will it be strong enough to handle masts, sails and rigging?

Do you plan on adding any weight to it?

How well did you fare using the hot glue gun with the foam material? I stopped using it since it was too hot and melted a lot of holes into the foam material.

Looking forward to your final product.

I have been building stuff with blue board for quite some time but this is my first venture into sailing vessels. The very forst one has a thicker, two layer deck that I inserted a sheet of balsa between to help carry and spread the load. In hindsight I would go with a thin layer of ply on the bottom and as the deck with the blue board sandwiched between. So far there have been no problems with the one that I completed a while back.

On the weight issue, I was thinking about cutting a bit of 1/4" ply and gluing the model down onto it just for weight but I noticed that the eight guns and crew weighed several times as much as the model and decided to just go with that for now. The models are hilariously light (especially for someone like me who is used to those resin kits that seem to weigh tons).

The trick to the hot glue is to use the "child safe" ones that use glue that melts at a lower temp. Mine is an industrial one and I have to keep turning it off and on to avoid heat issues. Thanks foe asking that ……I must remember to add that to the posts on the blog. I am a real big fan of Tite-Bond Carpenter's Glue and have used it on almost all of my other projects see link it is just that the first model was rather off hand and I was in a hurry and didn't wish to wait for glue to dry.

Thanks Everybody for the kind words, more posts to follow.
