I needed a platoon to play Too Fat Lardies' Chain of Command ruleset at my local hobby shop, and the Perry's DAK infantry box for 20 pounds with 38 figures in it, had quality and nice price, so I went for it. Only minor problem, I did not want them for the desert but for Europe, mostly France; so I committed the heresy of painting their uniforms in German field grey colour after removing everything DAK related from them with a cutter. Moreover, as I wanted them ready for action, I committed the second heresy of dipping them.

I did the same, nothing wrong with it in my book. :-) |

Very cool. Were there enough legs not on shorts in one box? |

They look great, but you have no MG42s. But I suppose they can carry whatever you want them to carry. Great painting! |

Thank you guys. There are no short in the box. All of them come in trousers. The MG42 can be bought in metal from the Perrys website, but I think first I will order the sdkfz250 :) In any case, the box gives you six LMG teams

Great job, IMHO. Nothing wrong at all with the dip. Makes figs look MUCH more realistic, in 1/4 of the time, if done right. Which you did! Peter |

BS, Having lost some control in my painting arm after an accident…I have been seriously considering dipping some figures for Stalingrad myself. I would like to here more about your home made dip. |

@ACW gamer, I use a matt varnish and betumen of judea until you see the mixture dark enough, plus some drops of white spirit to make the varnish more fluid. I dip the figure with an old big brush but applying blotches, and then I retrieve the excess with the same brush which I clean in dry toilet or kitchen paper. Lastly and before it gets dry, I pass a brush with white spirit on the top of the head, shoulders and kness to simulate cenital light. At the next day I spray the figures with a matt varnish to completely kill all possible shines. You can see another example of mine here: link |
