I am collecting 54mm mostly plastic Units to put on some demo games around Waterloo 200th. Obviously, for reasons of space, not all units can be represented. So I am wondering which uniform to paint my Allied Hussars. Extra points if I can also use them in the Peninsula. |

Any of them wear a busby? Hussars have no business wearing shakos. |

Janner, weren't the 18th the regiment who, towards the end of the battle, were commanded by their colonel to "Follow Me !" to which the regiment replied "To Hell !" and then charged down the hill and broke a French square ? |

Janner, weren't the 18th the regiment who, towards the end of the battle, were commanded by their colonel to "Follow Me !" to which the regiment replied "To Hell !" and then charged down the hill and broke a French square ? According to his own account, Maj Gen Vivian ordered, 'You will follow me'. A degree of exaggeration may have crept into accounts of a regimental-wide response, but it's a fine tale nether-the-less As I understand it, Vivian also related that it was the 10th that broke into an Imperial Guard square with the 18th clearing some supporting cavalry away from the square's flank and capturing some cannon. |

I never felt the British really got the hang of hussar uniforms. Pelisses the same colour as the dolman? It's not really in the spirit of the thing. Still, if I had to choose one I would go for the 18th (and just for some added interest, since it is a demo game, I would include a figure of the Earl of Portarlington, commander of the 23rd Light Dragoons, in with the troopers since he fought alongside them after turning up late at the battle and failing to find his own unit). |

Yup! The 1st Hussars KGL,(being the strongest in numbers) ably supported the 10th and 18th. They were a very disciplined regiment. Then again, Vivian was a very good commander who used his cavalry excellently that evening. This is not an endorsement of a particular uniform but if I had to go for either the 10th or 18th which will cover 1813-1815, and remember, the 10th had red shakos Paul :) |
15th Hussar | 26 May 2015 6:28 a.m. PST |
15th Hussars Someone really suggested the 18th? Egads! Villiers en Couchies, Sahagun, Vittoria, etc. Plus they were trained in outpost duties by Austrian Hussars and never forgot the lesson. OTHER than the 1st KGL Hussars…Pshaw on those OTHER wannabee's. 18t Hussars…Indeed, Sirrah, you insult me! |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am leaning toward the 1st KGL Hussars as the figures wear the busby and I don't have time for head swaps. Can anyone tell me what colour horse they rode? |

Another vote for the 1st KGL, You don't get to paint Busby's often. |
