Inspired by the '1864' series now on the TV and a recent visit to the Arsenal Museum in Copenhagen I have been looking into the Wars of Schleswig-Holstein. Does anyone know a source of 28mm figures for these two wars, especially the first one in 1848? |

Waterloo to Mons is going to be back in production hopefuly this summer. They will have figures for both and Eureka has for 1864 Danish inf. You can use Northstar ,Mirliton or Battlehonours Austrian Dragoons for Danish cav. .and Mirilton and Battlehonours Austrian hussars for Danish. There is aSchleswig wars yahoo group that can keep you up to date. sincerely juergen c. olk also I believe Stuart Penhall still has figures. |

Mashrewba-Artillery Man my suggestion is to get the excellent The First Schleswig-Holstein War 1848-1850 by Nick Svendsen. Good detailed history of the war and tons of uniform information. For the Danes the later 1848 uniform is similar to the 1864 uniform without the great coat. Thus the Eureka 1864 Danes are not too amiss. Holsteiners wore an array of unifroms that can be proxied. link |

I'm not that into 28mm – so this is a general guideline. Danes in shako – If you can find some 1830s British or Carlist Wars figures in shako, they should work. For later 1st War figures, any ACW figure in kepi and frock coat would work. As to the cavalry, see the suggestions above. Danish artillery in kepi – again, ACW crew in kepi and frock or other. For the Schleswig-Holsteiners – Mex.-Am. War Americans will work for the 1st regiments formed, since they wore the fatigue outfit, otherwise, FPW Prussians should work if you file down the boots to make pants. FPW Prussian Dragoons will work for S-H Dragoons and FPW Prussian artillery will work for S-H artillery [again, providing you file down the boots to make pants and shoes]. For the other German contingents, you'll need to pick up Weaver's or Svedsen's book on the war and go from there. Also, you could join the Yahoo Schleswig War group, as we're still active and there is a ton of uniform info available in the files of the group. Hope this helps. |
