Which movement trays do you use? The citadel ones or unofficial ones? Why do you use the ones you do? Where do you buy them? |

I make mine from compressed fiberboard (I guess it's MDF?) that a friend cuts into just the right size to hold an "official" Sword and the Flame platoon. Make them slightly larger than needed, and glue bass or balsa wood lips around the perimeter. Spray khaki or green and flock the wet paint. I know you posted this only to Warhammer, but Movement Trays are universal when playing with individually based figures. I use words like "approximately" because I hand cut my own bases for "true 25mm" Colonial figures, and want to make allowances. The same trays held the same number of 3/4" washer based AWI figures in a game Saturday night. Are you "allowed" to use hand made trays in Warhammer tournaments? |

The current Citadel kits are pretty amazingly flexible and a decent value so I use those nowadays. Before that with the old style trays I would cut them up and extend with styrene sheet and strip. Or make my own from scratch again with styrene sheet and strip. Styrene is so effective and so easy to work with and mates with the Citadel trays perfectly so there's no real reason to use any alternate material. |

I make my own because 20mm square bases don't all measure 20mm… I custom tailor my movement trays. I line the unit up on a PVC foam sheet, white-glue sprues (which have a nice trapezoid cross-section) to surround the unit, then cut the excess off. This way I can be sure of a correct fit. |

I use the black matte board you mount pictures with. It's like 8 bucks for a huge 32" x 40" sheet. Easy to cut and it's unobtrusive. Here's a picture of some Dwarf units on them. The unit on the right was made with white core matte board. I guess I could paint it but you're better off just using the black core like the other units.
I use the same stuff to make modular roads for modern gaming. angrypiper.com/gaming/?p=227 |

I cut out a piece of MDF to size. Glue a thin sheet of tin to this, and then cover with textured wallpaper. The result is a nice tray that my magnetized minis stick to. |
