Has anybody on TMP read this book? If so, I'd like to get your thoughts on the book.

I read it several years ago and thought it was "okay." I liked the snapshots into life as a soldier and the changing emotions, but it was a bit dry reading. Very slow-paced.

I also skimmed it back in the day as a reference. The dryness you mention may be a translation issue--sometimes translating more or less literally rather than a bit more loosely can make reading these oldie goldies tough on occasion. It also matters when the memoirs were written--when the writer is in front of the fire with his feet up, events tend to become a little sedate, as it were. Still, there are some valuable appendices and a decent bibliography.
