Okay, the Morlocks are not stupid, just had it easy for so long they lost the improving the harvest technology. Assume they capture/keep the time machine (killing the hero wannabe) and find there is a way to duplicate the effect (with or without the 'current model.") They discover the time setting for Victorian England and decide on a campaign of terror and possibly changing history (Payback!) – they would likely be even less likely to consider the consequences of changing timelines IMO. Alternatively they pick a time when (non-human) "monsters" were more believed by the masses or there was a cataclysmic war going on. Who knows where this might go,especially if they strike opportunistically with a Martian/Alien Invasion (either one.) |

Get those Morlocks a good, London-based tailor, and they might do quite well for themselves in Victorian England. |

Read another story in which the Morlocks were a race in control of high tech. No reason you cant have them do more than just harvest the Eloi and terrorize London. |

The book was written a couple decades ago. The title is "Morlock Night". |

Hmm… You mention Morlorcks striking London in timing with a Martian Invasion. Would this be inspired by Alien Dungeon announcing they are working on their Morlocks and Magamen? |

deflatermouse, No. I am aware of the company (whoever that is) that has a steampunk Martian invasion of the USA (All Quiet on the Martian Front?) is branching out if the RUMINT is right. I glossed over a post recently mentioning magamamen, ("living lava," I assume,) or some such in one of the other Morlock threads. Honestly the game mentioned above stirs less than zero interest for me, based on what I read or see, so I ignore information about it as much as possible. The blame for this thought is more the fault of CC. I do VSF gaming as one of the genres/eras I collect forces/companies/armies for but not that game. |

GypsyComet, No that was not the name of the book I read. Can not seem to find it at the moment. Mine was a story in which the Morlocks no longer lived on earth. They had enclosed the sun in a giant sphere on which they lived. One of them joined the time traveler from the original H.G. Wells story and they traveled to several alternate timelines. Ring any bells? |

The book you want is The Time Ships by Stephen Baxter. All the best, George |

Going back and changing history might lead to the Morlocks paradoxing themselves out of existence. Oops. |

I have AQotMF but am not really interested in embracing the fluff or story line in it. I too collect figures from many a range. Still happy to play Space 1889 than Martian Front. I am more than happy to follow the path that HG Wells showed and I would be sticking to the late Victorian period. So storys set in the UK or Iceland are more of interest to me. Having them armed (as it seems they will be) doesn't interest me much. I am interested in the books mentioned. Thank you for them. If I can figure a way to include Sherlock Holmes I'll be well happy. I too blame CC for raising awareness of the underworld dwellers. (Thanks be to him.) |

Come to think of it, maybe CC is a Morlock agent (or dare I say it, an actual Morlock ), sent back to begin the rewriting of history. |

Allen57, I was more speaking to the OP's description.
"They discover the time setting for Victorian England and decide on a campaign of terror and possibly changing history (Payback!) – they would likely be even less likely to consider the consequences of changing timelines IMO. Alternatively they pick a time when (non-human) "monsters" were more believed by the masses or there was a cataclysmic war going on." Is very much Jeter's Morlock Night. |
