"Small number of Iranian troops operating artillery in battle for refinery Associated Press is reporting that two anonymous US defence officials have said that Iran has a small number of troops supporting Iraqi security forces, the police and Hashd al Shaabi militias in the battle to retake control of the Baiji oil refinery. One of the officials said that the Iranians are operating artillery and heavy weapons, such as 122mm rocket systems, and surveillance drones. The US official line is that they support Iranian militias role in the conflict, so long as the fighters are operating under Iraqi command…" Full article here link

Iranian Militia's is the new code word…like volunteers for Russians and Germans in the Spanish Civil War. Except, this time it is not just for the belligerents to give cover to their involvement of foreign troops, but is being parroted by our own government to minimize what a disaster this is… |

Except the shia militias are not comprised of Iranians per se but are shias drawn from the majority population in Iraq. They consider themselves "Iraqis" probably. |

I doubt they consider themselves "Iraqis", nor "Iranians" either. They probably most identify themselves with their tribal affiliation, regional location and religious sect. |

I was under the impression the Persian Iranian Shia, from Iran, probably from Iranian special forces calling themselves shia militia or volunteers were well documented fighting in Iraq. Not Iraqi Shia (who are as well). |

Yes, I have said that before. And IMO is one of the overriding factors in failures of the Iraqi state and military at this point. |
