I've been trying to find a good ruleset for the 5-20 mini force size skirmish that has lists available for the basic greek/egyptian/celts/roman/ect…

My group has been playing Ronin for a while now, and mainly started looking for a game with a similar mini count. Thanks to a few members recent book choices, well, classical mythology kind of came up as the major one…

Having the ability to work with both mythical and historical options for various players would also be a great thing for it due to the range of focus' the various people in the group go for.

Attached minis line isn't necessary, as some members are glancing at various options (Or already have bits and pieces of what they want).

Scale preference is 25-32mm variety. Preferably the 30-60 minute gameplay standard (We tend to game over lunch)

Anyone know a good option here?

Sounds like Of Gods And Mortals might be what you're looking for : link

From the SoBH rules stable.

A second recommendation for OGAM.

The description mentions two rival bands being led by Thor and Ares. Do the rules work well with no magic, no mythological beasties, and no gods? I'm kind of looking for the same sort of thing Borathan is: rules that will let my Vikings, Gauls or Greeks fight other Vikings, Gauls and Greeks, or perhaps trolls or satyrs, or even have a god intervene from time to time.

Try SwordPlay from 2 Hour Wargames.

It's a free download from their webpage.

It'll handle gods and men easily, just give the gods the highest Rep the others are classed as Grunts anyway.

Fanticide may be an option…

Brink of Battle as well.

Of Gods and Mortals very much is oriented around magic, etc. It's sort of a slightly unit oriented take on the SOBH rules.

One option if you want just individual humanoid types running around is Saga, and using the battleboards to represent various factions – that can easily extend (and some might say already does) extend to fantasy, having the battleboard abilities thought of as spells etc.

Brink of Battle and Open Combat are options. Lion Rampant is easily hackable – the rules are already written presuming a certain set of archetypes are true for the period it covers – that high medieval knights WERE impetuous hard chargers, etc. One can easily think of ways it might represent eager-but-frightenable barbarian horse, or stuck-in-the-mud but stubborn Romans, etc.

Victrix/Mongoose's Warriors of Antiquity might scratch the ticket, but the demo I tried at Salute had almost no chrome – good for really fast games, but might get samey quickly. Though of course the full rules might be quite different.

One of the major things is the pre-done lists, there's a few younger gamers that are involved that have had a few issues in figuring out the math end of things for force building.

Most of the rules they can figure out or get help, but it's difficult to help with figuring out their lists or any changes they want to make without creating odd shifts that take forever to fix (Took a few games of us wondering why his list was having trouble with Ronin only to have someone notice that he'd thought that all of the included abilities still needed to pay the extra points cost…) and that's just part of it. Considering there's both a 9 and 10 year old who tend to play anything available at the store we play at…they're also the ones who kind of pushed for something that can let them go with Greek and Egyptian mythology considering how one is now in the hunt for a Kraken he can let loose…

Then there's the person who has picked out a specific roman legion and period he wants to model his after and is sculpting them himself…

OGAM is themed around what you're after, but as has been said, is very focused on the interplay between men, heros and gods.

What about just standard Song of Blades and Heroes? Easy to pick up, easily adaptable to any setting. You want more mythical aspects, use those special rules for your units. You don't want myth/fantasy elements in your game, don't give your units those special rules.

Here are two of my SBH warbands.
