Some WIP photos of some conversions of Weston's Mexican Bandits into Villa's Bodyguard, the Dorados (Jowett & De Quesada) or another general who's guard had green uniforms but I can't find the reference… link Purists please don't stomp on me with minor historical errors…sabres are unlikely for all (usually Jefes only) but I wanted to make them as different to the originals as possible. Doing them for an MR game at Partizan next weekend. |

I love the conversions. Could you show some pictures once you get them painted? |

I too recall reading a reference to another revolutionary leader having a green-uniformed bodyguard unit Mike, but can't remember who it was. In fact, I suspect that due to some sort of research confusion this plate might even depict it. I suppose it's even remotely possible that there was a set of general 'regulations', or at least recommendations, for all such Constitutionalist units. The only photos I've seen of the Dorados show them in civilian – although relatively 'uniform' compared to the mass of Villistas – clothing. They wear jackets, gaiters, and hats of a single style: the slightly taller-crowned Mexican equivalent of the US Montana peak, with a gold dollar attached to the front as their unit badge. If they did wear the green uniform it was probably only used as full-dress for ceremonial occasions. It's probable that all senior revolutionary generals had a bodyguard unit. When I get around to painting a unit in this uniform for one of my commanders I'll be using the closest available figure-match: rurales. |

Daryl – There are a couple of shots of the painted figures amongst the photos from the Partizan game at link I do intend doing some 'posed' ones, for a possible magazine article. HM – I found the reference and made a note of the name and now cant find the piece of paper I wrote it on… Yes, thats the main photo of the Dorados I have seen – I did an anaysis of the clothing and weapons and not even a suggestion of charro dress! |
