I just read two touching articles on Yahoo News. I wish I could post the links, because both of them pretty much said it all. the first, WHAT IT MEANS TO BE THE DAUGHTER OF A UNITED STATES MARINE, Huffington Post. second, I AM A VETERAN AND I HATE "HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY" AND HERE'S WHY, Washington Post. please take the time to google these and read. if any of you puter savy guys have the links, please post them. Two different views, one from a dependent and the other from a veteran, two different eras. For those of who served, or who lost loved ones, if these don't make your heart swell and your eyes a little misty. there is something wrong. thank you Sam |

No offense to Ms Haskamp, but does she get highly upset because people celebrate Christmas by giving gifts, having parties, going to sales, and generally being 'festive' instead of going to church and remembering the sacrifice Christ made for all of us? I'm guessing not. I'm also guessing that if she did, the Washington post wouldn't print her article. I happen to agree with her thoughts, but it's the tone that I find objectionable. It's fairly standard, "I'm a victim, (vet in this case), so you have to listen to what I say, and you all are bad for enjoying yourselves." It reminds me very much of when I was growing up in the 1980s. All Vietnam vets were pscychos in the movies and on TV. This seems to be a growing trend now a days, returning to the vet as victim view of our service. I am also a vet, I have a friend buried in Arlington. it doesn't give me any special authority on this holiday. however, I will take a moment to remember Lcpl Troy Gregory, his life ended too early, the son he never met, and the wife he left behind. however, I'm also going to get together with friends and family and savor the freedom he died to protect and that I fought to preserve. |

I can see both sides of that argument, I guess. |
