"Sergeant Val Giles (1842-1915) A Confederate Soldier wrote an incredible account of his experiences as a soldier in the Fourth Texas Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. His account of the war was later edited and turned into book form titled "Rags and Hope: The Recollections of Val. C. Giles Four Years with Hood's Brigade, Fourth Texas Infantry, 1861-1865" edited by Mary Laswell. Sergeant Giles devoted several pages about his experiences at the battle of Gettysburg and the assault on Little Round Top on the late afternoon of July 2, 1863. His incredible reminiscences about Gettysburg is written in "Texans at Gettysburg: Blood and Glory with Hood's Texas Brigade" by yours truly and Randy Drais.
