Can anyone recommend a good brush on Matt varnish that actually gives a good, flat sink ships please? |

+1 Also don't apply too thickly. |

The Army painter works well for me. If it looks at all shiny give a day or two to completely dry and it will be fine. |

Galleria Matt Varnish. This can be bought from art stores. I find that adding a tiny drop of Tamiya Matt to the bottle gives a better finish. Tony |

I have used Testors Model Master Acryl matt, semi-gloss, and gloss with good results. Testors, usually, is also readily available where model kits are sold. I have also used Krylon flat spray with an undercoat of gloss, ultra-violet resistant spray to protect paint from fading. When I first started painting, this didn't make sense to me. After all, figures don't sit out in the sun. However, as I met more people who had collections decades old and came to understand that store lighting is rich in UV, it made sense to take this precautionary step. Besides, the gloss provided a hard protective coating which made the colors pop and then the flat removed the shine. No matter whether I'm brushing on Testors, some other brand (all those mentioned are good) or spraying on a finish, I still gloss first then flatten. |

+1 Xrays. Gloss first then matt if you want durability. I use whatever is available, Tamiya from the model shop, Windsor and Newton or Liquitex from the art shop etc. Never had any issues with any of them. I remember reading somewhere that non-acrylic inks can be lifted by varnish, but as my inks are acrylic I've never had this problem. |

I agree with Shardik. I've used Vallejo on many projects and found it to be absolutely dead flat for a brush-on medium. Good stuff. |

I use brush on Dullcote. Been using it for years. Bought 6 bottles last time I picked some up. Thanks, John |
