Special Rules:
Crack. Reroll 1 failed morale save if no casualties already.
MFS Must form Square. Infantry in line column or skirmish must form square when charged by cavalry in their frontal arc. If in line roll 2 d6. If double 6d6 the unit forms disordered square, if double 1d6 the unit is disordered and fails to form square. (BP, p.75) Units in Line have to pass a command test using their commander's staff rating with all normal modifiers for distance, proximity of enemy, etc. A fail by one results in a disordered square, any worse and the unit does not form square, and is disordered. The commander's staff rating is increased by 1 if the cavalry start over a move away and by 2 if the Cav start over 2 moves away. (AT2 p. 77)
PDC Pas de Charge. French infantry in column are reliable, additional to +1 for being in Attack column. (AT2 p.55)
Reliable – +1 to commanders staff rating. (BP p.91)
Unreliable. Order failed on equal command roll. (BP p.91)
CFS Can form skirmish in terrain they would not normally enter.
Marauder. Such units ignore distance modifiers for commands. (BP p.93)
SS. Sharpshooter. Re-roll 1 missed shot. (BP p.93)
Elite x+. Overcome disorder at start of Command roll on roll of xD6. (BP p.93)
Freshly Raised. Shooting or combat randomised for first turn at shooting or combat: 1d6 – becomes disordered, & 6's needed to hit. 2-3d6 – 6's needed to hit. 4-5d6 – no effect. 6d6 – extra bonus shot or attack.
Hvy Cav +dx. Additional Dx to combat resolution on a charge. (BP p.93)
FCh. Ferocious Charge. Re-roll misses in combat after charge. (BP p.93)
GoA. Gallop at Anything. +1 to charge order, but must take breakthrough, even if taking them off table. -2 to order to return.
TF. Tough Fighters. Re-roll 1 missed combat attack. (BP p.93)
LD. Lie Down. A unit can be ordered to lie down. Artillery hits at medium or long range must be rerolled. A lying down unit contacted by any enemy is destroyed. (AT2 p.31)
FF. First Fire. +1 Dice on first volley of battle. (BP p.93)
SL. Steady Line. Unit in Line may opt to issue closing fire without closing fire bonus and then counter charge. (AT2 p.31)
Shrapnel. 3D6 at medium range, but +1 to basic ‘to hit' dice. (AT2 p.39, wording modified)
RMF. Rifle Mixed Formation. Adaption of the AT2 mixed order rule. Hanoverian and KGL skirmish units with 1 company armed with rifles may fire one base at rifle range of 24".
Notes:
Cavalry frontage. A convention, to ease overscale congestion, any Cavalry in on a two rank movement tray may pass through any gap as if it were only 2 bases wide. (110mm)
British Four Deep Line (AT2 p.31) We will not be using this special rule. Instead, to save time and complexity, British line units in column formation who have not moved earlier in the turn may issue 2D6 of fire to the front instead of 1.
Crack (BP p.89) Awarded to French line infantry and gunners, to reflect their high but brittle morale in the presence of the Emperor, which will wear off as the day progresses.
Must form square. Note adoption of AT2 recommendation for procedure for unit in Line. (AT2 p. 77)
Infantry not in square or line with secure flanks that are in combat with cavalry suffer a -3 combat results modifier. If they are required to take a break test they do so at -1. (AT2 p.78)
Infantry in square may not move, even to their rear (BP, p.74)
Shaken Cavalry units cannot use a sweeping advance to charge. (BP p. 73)
Infantry not in square or line with secure flanks that are in combat with cavalry suffer a -3 combat results modifier. If they are required to take a break test they do so at -1. (AT2 p.78)
AT2 Special rules not being used include:
Cavalry Deep Formation, p. 36. Double edged sword, adds to complexity without providing much more granularity.
