… emperor's house comes to city for new memorial.

"A STONE taken from a house Napoleon once lived in is to arrive in Plymouth tomorrow to be used in a memorial on the city's waterfront.

The volcanic stone is to arrive in the city on board a Brittany Ferries ship to be presented to Alain Sibiril, honorary consul for France in Plymouth.

The stone comes from Longwood House, where Napoleon stayed while in captivity on St Helena Island, in the South Atlantic Ocean.

The idea is that it will be used as part of a memorial to mark the bicentenary of Napoleon's presence in Plymouth Sound between July 26 and August 4 1815, on board Bellérophon…"
