Jemima Fawr, sometimes in the museum field exhibit is used for temporary displays while exhibition is used for permanent displays.

Of course some places use them the other way around and other places use them interchangeably. Each museum or museum system may have its own style on these things.

So "exhibit" may be correct.

Really must go for a visit, not been there for years and it's only 10 miles from me.

Well worth visit. The whole place has just had a top to toe revamp via Lottery money. Very well laid out and presented with a brilliant use of space.

The Waterloo diorama is a permanent feature and if you can prise kids away from them you can get to handle a repro Brown Bess and Baker Rifle – they are secured with steel cable so you can't take them as a present – but there is plenty of slack to get them up to your shoulder.

Worth mentioning that the musket in particular is bloody heavy so if you have young children its best to get to it before they do!

Don't forget that the Royal Hampshire Regimental museum is just around the corner from the RGJ museum.

Bushy,

No. It ain't.

I've always assumed that an 'exhibit' is a single item and an 'exhibition' is a collection of items. Exhibit is also the verb form.
