Like everyone else, I considered buying myself the LR rules to see what all the hype was about, and news of a Dark Ages supplement pushed me to give in. However, once I read the rules, with all the Boasting, challenges, sneaky skirmishers, etc., I knew exactly what I wanted to play: the Trojan War! So here is my first force, the Greeks:
Ready to test the measure of those annoying Trojans! I've been experimenting with getting the troop types adjusted, and making my Mounted Men-at-Arms into proper chariot-riding Heroes. My first full play-test is tomorrow, and you will be able to see my conclusions, and hopefully some nice pictures, at my blog: leadasbestosblog.blogspot.com So please follow along if you're interested, and I'm very open to suggestions as to how to get a better game, source material, etc. Thanks! |

What a great idea! I hadn't thought of it, but I think you're right: Lion Rampant would be a great rules set to play Homeric battles. Hmmm… Your minis look wonderful, by the way. |

These rules seem to work very well for most periods and are not ruinous in figure terms too, I believe a Fantasy version is due out :) Yay! And it will allow all those trolls and dragon ogres gathering dusts to come on out to play also. A positive set/s of rules with a positive guy behind them. Cheers happy gaming need some biblical boasts and sub commander rules too :) PS OneHuai, Nice! :) |

Are you making any visual/costume distinctions between Achaeans and Trojans? |

Very nice and a brilliant adaption of the rules. |

Thanks, gents! My Trojans have buff colored shields and blue tones on their robes. Achaeans have black and white shields and tusked helmets. In other words, they are pretty much interchangeable, esp in these early days, where I don't have 2 fully painted forces. YET! |

Achaeans:
Just as a general guide. Variations will occur! |

These are most inspiring. I love your painting style--really makes them pop! How do you plan to model the great heroes like Achilles? Just embed them in regular units (dismounted men-at-arms?), or treat their single figures as units and track their wounds? I've read about fantasy players doing the latter for bruisers like trolls and larger-than-life heroes, and it seems like quite a good idea. It would certainly convey the impression of lone hunk beating off hordes of lesser mortals, but then would require either a little paperwork or tokens and so might steal a little of the game's elegance. I'd be curious to hear what you plan to do. |

Still working through the Heroes idea. I've used Heroes in my other games like LOTR Heroes, w/ Fate and Luck points to spend to affect dice rolls, and may do so again. Achilles, on the other hand, I've always used as a Force of Nature, kind of blowing across the battlefield as a random element, not controlled by a player, and not able to be beaten, just avoided. More as play continues! |

Nicely painted figures! A set of bronze age skirmish rules like Lion Rampant would be great. Interestingly Dux Bellorum has been adapted for the Bronze Age as well: link |
