I am seeking the best rule recommendations for Brigade-Corps level operations in central and eastern Europe, I am looking at in particular the Russo Polish War. All thoughts greatfully recieved. The rules need go be geared to 28mm I am not interested in Blackpowder as a system. |

What level unit are you expecting to be the lowest level portrayed – battalion/regiment or brigade? If battalion/regiment, then might I recommend The Sound of the Guns by Larry Brom from sergeants3.com . The infantry battalion, cavalry regiment, and artillery battery are the basic maneuver units with the individual players being divisional commanders. It is towards the "old school" end of rules but plays well. We've used these rules in the Jackson Gamers for several decades. Jim |

If I am honest due to the size of some of the battles I was looking at stands/elements representing 1000-2000 figs but will any rules if they have the right flavour. |

Volley and Bayonet would work quite well at your indicated scale. |

19th Cent -that would be Field of Battle then. I d like the Neil Thomas set as well though. |

Let me elaborate 19th Century Neil Thomas Rules is a good start for testing ideas for a period. They are simple but can provide a lot of depth with some player input. They can be easily integrated in a campaign. Bi Bloody Battles is a richer system then 19th Century Rules, but targeted at a larger scale. |

Hmm, there were some quite big battles in the November Uprising, weren't there. There are plenty of Napoleonics rulesets to choose from. Look at the reviews in the DFHM Rules Directory: link You should find some that fit your specifications. Since Bloody Big Battles has been kindly mentioned, I confirm that BBB should work well, certainly for the larger battles. A word of caution about figure scale, though. You say you want to use 28mm. The standard BBB base size is 1", and units are typically 4 or 5 bases (minimum 2, maximum 7), which would look odd with a single 28mm figure per base. If you do choose to use BBB, you'd probably want to use oversize bases – 1.25" to 1.5" square – and fit 4 figures on each (fewer for skirmishers and cavalry). Whatever you choose, I hope you find a ruleset that provides the flavor you want. I also hope you'll post some interesting reports for us on gaming these relatively little-known battles.
