Thanks once again!
I have seen it suggested that the Norse range is a little heftier. Their shields are probably also a bit large for my target period (550 AD?) but it would be good to add them to the mix for variety.
I'm planning to do five armies – Romano-British, Saxon, Welsh, Picts and Irish (Scots). Like you, I was going to start off with a variety of packets and see what I can make up from them.
Apart from the Norse and the excellent new Picts, I'd targeted the following packets for various uses:
PENDRAKEN
ARL1 Unarmoured, standing, spear
ARL3 Heavy cavalry, spear, shield
ARL4 Archers
ARL6 Unarmoured, attacking, mixed weapons
ARL8 Unarmoured command
ARL10 Militia
ARL12 Unarmoured cavalry, spear, shield
ARL14 Unarmoured cavalry command
ARL15 Armoured cavalry command
ARL16 Early Anglo-Saxon type militia
ARL18 Arthurian personalities
AS1 Foot Command
AS4 Great Fyrd
AS6 Light Archers
AD6 Javelinmen
AD9 Archer
ACR7 Numidian cavalry
AR12 German javelinmen, symmachiarii
ELM8 Welsh Spearmen
AD4 Light cavalry, javelins
MAGISTER MILITUM
DAC2 Dacian Warriors
DAC3 Dacian Command
AOK17 Scottish / Irish / Welsh Infantry, Spears and Knives
IRS1 Irish Warriors
IRS2 Irish Skirmishers
IRS6 Irish Elite Warriors
I've avoided armoured infantry for this period, but will use some armoured figures for leaders. I thought the Numidians might make good Irish or Welsh skirmishing cavalry.
