Hello everyone. My wife and I enjoy SAGA a great deal and I am going to make her a custom army as a gift. I was planning to use the Wargames Factory Amazons and do some small conversions to them then paint them up in her favorite color.

My only beef with the figures is the 3 leather strips that are apparently armor. I want to greenstuff them to have the skirt go all the way around the figure. Failing that, I'd like to at least put some kind of cloth on there to look like a sort of tabard for the bottom half only. Is this feasible for someone who has never worked with greenstuff? Is there any easier way? Thanks!

Below is a pic of the models from the website, I know their paint job sucks, I'm just interested in people's thoughts on fixing the bottom half.

The strips are based the Roman soldier's cingulum I think …

In classical depiction, women warriors would seldom be so stripped down (and seldom have armour) … either western costume (a short, sleeveless, tunic, often unclipped at the right shoulder exposing the chest) or eastern/Phrygian costume (jacket, trousers and phrygian cap) would be normal …

So converting the cingulum into the skirt of a short tunic would be entirely appropriate in my opinion …

Good luck if you go for it thumbs up!

Do't bother with the WGF Amazons. Use the Eureka Amazons for Classical Greek Amazons.

Ethan, if you are set on using the WGF figures then you shouldn't have any problem making skirts for them out of green stuff.

Its sticky so have some sort of plastic material that you can set it on and work with it on your work table.

The GS starts out very tacky but gets less so as it starts to harden. There is a sweet spot where it is still pretty soft and not as tacky, just have to use it for a bit to find it.

Have something you can use as a lubricant. I normally use water, saliva and cherry flavored lip balm, dipping my sculpting tool or fingers into a cup of water, licking my finger or smearing a tad of the lip balm depending on how sticky it is.

You might want to start off with something like terraining a couple of the bases with the green stuff to learn a bit about its properties before you start off on the skirts. Also, id wait and do the heroine/leaders last so that you have a better grasp on sculpting and can make them look better.

You can find a flat out ton of basic tutorials on youtube.

Good luck!
Dan
