Hi Guys,

New write-up of a recent game at the club. More 1/3000 WW2 Naval action!

Rough decision leaving that sinking troopship behind!!

An interesting game!

I agree with the escort commander's decision to leave the Laconia's passengers to their fate. The convoy had no designated rescue ship, the only ships that could reasonably recover the survivors were the escorts and the convoy was still under attack. Remember that after rescuing survivors the rescue ship(s) must catch up with the convoy, which could involve several hours of hard steaming.

Blame "their Lordships" for sailing a troopship in a weakly defended convoy.

My one criticism is the arrangement of the convoy – two columns. Normal convoy formation is wide frontage and narrow depth, so as to present a narrower target for u-boats, which would normally attack from the beam. With ten ships I'd probably run with five columns of two with the valuable troopship and tanker in the centre column.

Wow, another cracking report! Agreed on the Laconia – 'don't look back' was very much the mantra
