What makers' artillerymen best match Old Glory 2nd Ed. 1809 French? I'm kind of attracted to the slender OG 2nd edition figures, but have no idea how they match up against other manufacturers – though I suspect Front Rank may be out due to heft, despite their beauty.

Same question for the 1809 British.

Thanks

The OG2 are slender indeed. I have a comparison of OG2 with a number of other manufacturers; no artillerymen, though.

I bought enough OG2 British to field one battalion as a test and after painting that unit I have no plans to add any more of these figures. The British shown in the link below do not match well with the other vendors shown.

Given that, I still have all of these manufacturers represented in my armies, just not in the same unit. Fielded in their own units, they look fine when painted.

Slender compared to some other ranges but more realistically proportioned? Might go well with Alban Miniatures? Their French artillery isn't out yet but is on the way I understand.

As you are not mixing them in the same unit, Brigade Games have some good figures for artillery of the period. You might try them.

While I do not have access to both, the designer of Sash and Saber and OG 2nd are the same person. Maybe look there…

Jon,

Don't mean to be contrary (well, maybe just a little) but on the table, if not under the magnifying glass, they work fine with many of the figures in your comparison. Not necessarily with the bigger and heftier but just fine with many of the others.

Bill.

Bill, no worries!

As I said, I use them on my table with other manufacturers' figures; just not within the same unit. On the gaming table, height and girth differences tend to disappear.

Thank you all. I will investigate the Sash & Saber.

Might want to look at the Connisseur range also. They are carried by Bicorne Miniatures. If you live in USA I could ship you a few to look at as I have extras. my email is smallmen1952@gmail.com
