Rewatching"The Pacific" and noticing the tanks, jeeps and halftracks are a very distinctive jungle green color. Almost a hint of blue. Whats the right Vallejo?

Irish Marine18 May 2015 6:11 a.m. PST

Probably Green grey or grey green.

Most are in US olive drab. There has been some discussion on modeling forums about a Marine Corps color, but unless the tank was 'custom built' for the Marines, it would have come off the assembly line in good old olive drab. There are some who believe the 'off color' is the result of post-war repainting.

Assuming the colours in the show are accurate, is it conceivable that the environment interacted with hte paints and caused it to fade in different ways than in Europe?

I'd suspect the opposite, that exposure to the elements caused the equipment to converge on the same shade.

I once saw colour photos of T34s and Shermans together in 1945 and there was barely any discernible difference in colour.

It's a different green. Watch The Pacific . Almost a Jungle Green .

Skarper21 May 2015 9:18 p.m. PST

Probably went with the jungle green cos it looks better on camera.

I can't watch the Pacific and find it tedious. Constantly jumping about and the lack of any coherent story is does not help. Shame because the people involved tried really hard.

Band of Brothers also bores me after the 3rd episode.

If you want a book with possibly more information Id suggest steve zalogas marine corps tanks. I do not own it, but the author is a modeler and I have read some of his other works.

Of course! Zologa: the guru.

The colour is USMC Forest Green it was used pre and early war for all USMC transport and field pieces 37mm A/T etc..I don't know exactly when it was phased out. I think Humbrol used to do a colour for it.Yep a dark green with a blue hint very distinct from olive drab.

@ Skarper- I understand disliking The Pacific, which was a bit tedious, but BoB? Boring? OK, some parts of some episodes, but on the whole I thought BoB was very interesting and often exciting. I particularly enjoyed the Market Garden episode. Diff'rent strokes, I suppose.

Thanks andysyk, that's exactly what I was getting at

Indeed – I enjoyed the 2nd episode the most, and the third is OK too. Episode 1 is just background but helps to establish the characters.

After 4 [Market Garden?] I really can't watch more than about 20 minutes before tuning out.

Skarper, you heretic! Well, it's good to know I'm not the only one! After the first couple of episodes it just seems like a disjointed procession of battle scenes – eye candy for the Call of Duty crowd maybe, but just doesn't hold my attention for long.

Skarper30 May 2015 4:45 a.m. PST

Quite – but best not to derail this thread which is nothing to do with BoB! I hate it when other people do that.

andysyk30 May 2015 7:06 a.m. PST

I think model master and Tamiya do Forest Green.
