Yesterday I put on a Might & Reason game. Figures were Baccus 6mm and we fought the Battle of Torgau.

The game started with Zieten attempting to cross the river on the Austrian left while Frederick led two forces – one of cavalry and one of infantry – to attack on the right. The center was pretty much ignored.

Zieten got bogged down (failing to activate) crossing teh river. On the left the cavalry broke through but then continued on in to the Austrian rear rather than waiting for supports.

Dahn pulled a division from his center to deal with the cavalry that found itself surrounded, while shoring up the right against Frederick. Reinforcements continued to arrive on that flank for Frederick. A hasty Austrian attack set the Prussian back in surprise and only a late massed cavalry charge set things in order again.

Both armies reached their break point on the same turn, but the Prussians broke, while the Austrians held firm.

As usual I was too busy being GM to get a lot of photos but here are a few:

Zieten finally clears the river near the fortress of Torgau:

The Austrian right. The Prussians have reformed after being attacked, but the Prussian cavalry (rear center) is doomed.

Nice.

This battle is (IMHO) impossible to do, as a single entity, in 28mm because of the initial set up.

I am a dyed in the wool 28mm gamer but, 6mm is certainly the way to go if you want to do battles like this.

Well, you could do this same game in 28mm if you wanted. My table was 9x6 with each unit made up of two bases, each 30x60mm.

But then your "brigades" look like color guards which can feel a bit wonky. With a ground scale of 1"=100 yards 28mm gives a very different aesthetic feel…

A great set of photos, this really shows off the assets of 6mm. I have the might and reason rules and have only managed one solo game despite spending about two years painting figures for it :)

This inspires me to try and get them to the table again!

They are great rules and 6mm is a great scale for them.

It's the all around (3/4) set up that has always defeated it for me for 28mm. An army (any army) deploying to attack from three sides usually Bleeped texts up 28mm. Two sides normally does!
