In addition to the PzIII I am workign on I am also doing some Russian infantry in overcoats. I have read all I can find and they seem to be described as having been brownish, but varied form brown to khaki to gray. I am thinking of using Anita's Safari Taupe 11088 for mine as it is a nice medium-dark shade of gray-brown.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this choice, or suggestions for a different shade.

The Red Army probablay has the record for the greatest number of humans wearing supposedly the same uniform in history.

And there were so many documented variations, go with whatever shade you like.

Any sort of darkish brown will do, some of them have some grey threads in the weave but stay away from grey as it is more modern.

Agreed – any brown/green/grey mix is fine, and you can use different shades in the same army no problems.

What are you modelling, Terry37? Late '42, Panzer Grey, Russians in greatcoats – could it be Stalingrad?

You can justify any color between a sort of sandy brown, through various khaki and that odd green brown you can't quite decide which is the main colour… through to grey.
But you don't want grey because the jerries are grey.
Go with whichever you think looks best.

Frothers,

No, not Stalingrad. I have gotten quite caught up in Harry Turtledove's WorldWar series and am doing two HotT armies based on it. My first two armies will be a Russian-German one versus the Race (lizard aliens).

I am trying to stay with those items actually mentioned in the text – thus the PzIII.

After I get these done I plan on doing an American army as it is pretty well described in the text too.

Mr. Elmo, looks like a good color. The Safari Taupe is very much like their Rawhide color.
