I have 28 mm perry plastics, based on 2 pence pieces. Would you put the Magnabase on the base (and the steel paper in the box) or vice versa. |

I use magic paper in the box as I base most of my figures on fender washer. For my multiple figure bases I use the Litko flex-steel and put on the bottom of the bases. Been doing it like this for about 11 years and I've never had a spill. YMMV |

Once upon a time I heard sheet magnet could lose its pull over time. So I always put the magnet in the box and steel under the figure. No idea if that's really true but relining a new box is way easier than rebasing a bunch of figs. I had one gent who claimed to know that magnets can lose power but not in any time scale gamers need to worry about: you'll be dust before you have to worry about it he said. Cheery fellow. |

I put magnetic sheeting on the bottom of my bases and use steel trays and tool boxes, really I should have just put the magnetic sheeting in the carrying trays. The new 2p pieces are magnetic! didn't realize this til I'd based loads of figures. |

I line the boxes with steel paper and put magnets on the bases. Even my oldest figures (from the last century!) have yet to suffer from 'loss of magnetism'. |

Checked some 2ps So they are! Wish I'd known this, the bank appear to have given me mostly old ones (which aren't) I will magnet the box – cut down on sticking stuff |

I've always preferred magnet on the figure and steel on the case or movement tray. I tried steel on the figures -- washers -- and magnet on the tray for some figures and it works OK but I didn't like the results. For large figure bases I had a lot of trouble getting multiple washers to sit evenly, they kept coming off, and I can't get paint to stay on the edges of the washers. In contrast the magnetic tape can be easily trimmed to fit and the edges take paint nicely if you prime it. WRT to fading of magnets, I don't think it's an issue. I've been basing figures on magnetic tape since 1979 and those figures still stick to steel with the same potency. After a few years the adhesive dried up and peeled off and unless I wanted to re-base, I re-attached the same magnets (with superglue, epoxy, hot glue, or tacky craft glue depending on what I had out at the time). Noe: I did give up on using magnets to protect figures in carrying cases. Too many time consuming paintjobs popped off when the car went over bumps. To store and protect figures I now use cases with internal foam trays or Plano tackle boxes with foam cut to fit. (Talking about 25/28mm fantasy figures.) So for me nowadays the magnet is just for movement trays. |
