Not that a lot of us use the paints but I hear Gunze Sangyo, the guys who do the Mr Hobby and Mr Color brand of products are shutting down. Has anyone heard any truth to this rumour? It'd be a shame if they did since they had a really quality line of products.

Agreed. I use a variety of their products especially the Mr. Surfacer range.

Where did you read about this-?

Never heard of 'em. Where were the products sold?

Hobby shops, online, etc. I have been using their products for years.

This will give you some idea of their range:

At the Shizuoka model show Gunze announced a bunch of new products and had a booth, so I don't think they are going out of business…

It's a shame that a company I never heard of that sells stuff I never bought goes out of business.

Gunze is hard to get on the east coast. I picked up a few bottles of their acrylics on Ebay, and yes they are wonderful…

It's a fairly popular line of paint in Finescale Modeler. I will have to keep an eye out, since I do not recall seeing any such rumors in past issues.

Prices were too high, too hard to source, etc.

They did not realize their market.

Sad.

Found this on the FSM site today:

"I received this email from A. Hamano, GSI Creos Corp. (formerly Gunze Sangyo), regarding the unavailability of Gunze Sangyo paint:

"Thank you for your email about our products.
We regret to say that we already stopped export of Aqueous hobby colors to USA and Canada due to decrease the sales in this area.

If you need paints, please contact Japanese mail order company.

They have English site.

Used Gunze Sanyo a lot in my plastic modelling days.

Always a superior product. Always a hassle to get.

If they are selling through Hobby Link Japan then they will still be available. At least for a while.

HLJ has a pretty crappy selection with regards to the actual paints. I don't know why they never really carried the full range. Ebay is where I get mine.

They're not closing, nor are their products not going to be available but they're no longer doing direct trade sales to countries where they aren't making a profit. If you local supplier was ordering from independant overseas distributors there won't be any real change.

Wanted to try a few colors but it was a pain trying to find someone who had them all.

Poor distribution overseas led to poor sales. Self fulfilling prophecy.
