Hi I'm finally finishing my AB prussian horse artillery.

Would the gunners be wearing gloves? Some illustrations show white gloves.

Or am I being daft as they can be done with or without gloves?
Cheers for any help
Paul

I paint my figures as with gloves when mounted and without when dismounted and serving a gun. Seems logical.

I would imagine it would be just for officers or for show.
White gloves manning a cannon? They'd be black after the first few discharges.

White gloves for parade, gauntlets for riding but I agree – gloves off when working the gun

I painted mine with gloves on, just for a change.

white gloves ?
How would they look like after firing several round – black?

Sorry VW,
I did say it may be a daft question, just seen a few pictures with the gloves on and the old sludge in the head swished around a bit!

No nock on anyone but I don't have a glove on any of mine.

Von W and 14Bore, I pondered painting them flesh but thought it would make a nice change as gloves.
I know they most likely would not use them in combat.
Again, no nock on anyone's choices.

I try and differentiate figures on the table as much as possible. Heavy guns have longer bases than field guns and each gun is on a separate base.
Horse guns are all on one base and have white gloves.
Easier for our gamer's to tell the difference.

Thanks Paul.

Prussian gunners would not be wearing white gloves. Some may have warn leather gloves that would have starte out to be buff in colour. As VW states how could you keep them clean.

my white glove remark wasn't intended as a critic, more a self reflection, how on earth could artillery keep it white?
I agree one can see those on prints, but this make me wonder.

I did for once wear white leater gloves, after one day use – the part of the grip looked terrible, of course I made the mistake not to employ a servant who would do all the menial tasks.
