Looking for recommendations for rules for 30YW that work well solo
Please be specific with why you like a particular rules set.
Here is what I am looking for:
25mm small unit actions raids etc
Suitable for Swedish – Polish wars of late 1620s
Swedish army:
• Swedish cavalry (12)
• Finnish cavalry (12)
• Livonian heavy cavalry (12)
• German Merc cavalry (12)
• Infantry regiment (16 pike, 24 shot)
• Light artillery

Poles:
• Couple of units of Hussars (10-12 each)
• 2-3 units of Cossacks
• Couple of units of shot (24 ea)

These should do it for you.

I have had good luck with Anchor of Faith, which is a Piquet supplement for the period. You can scale up or down for figure and ground scale. Both armies you mentioned are covered, as well as other.

Might I suggest looking at Irregular Wars? link

I have to admit an interest in these as the author, but they certainly cover the period you're after and include lists for those armies (and 46 others). They are specifically written for small engagements in mind.

For solo, you need simple rules because you will be doing the heavy lifting for both sides. I recommend Neil Thomas' Wargaming: An Introduction. There are a set of Pike and Shot rules that are easy to use. Each unit is variable in strength but the average unit size is 6 stands. Number of figures per stand is irrelevant. I believe there are army lists for the period you want.
