Owing to a catastrophic hard drive failure last week, coupled with problems with my backup system that I have only discovered in the last couple of days, it looks like I may have most of my files since early December last year. I had to finish the latest issue of MWBG on my laptop!

So, what I now have to do is try and contact anyone who has sent me anything important in the last 5 months and get them to re-send it (like magazine articles, for example).

If you are one of those people, please do NOT email any files – use WeTransfer wetransfer.com (up to 2Gb file transfers for free) or DropBox, or something similar, so that I only get ONE message and not a dozen, each with just a couple of photos or documents attached.

This is extremely important, because with my current emergency set-up whilst I am attempting to salvage data, my system could not cope with a sudden deluge of data to download.

So, please pass the word to anyone you know who has sent in articles since the beginning of December 2014. Obviously, this does not apply to anyone whose article has already appeared!

I am hoping that by using pro-grade recovery software, I may be able to salvage most of what has been lost, but it might take weeks (there was just under a terabyte of data on my huge iMac) and I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Thanks for your help, and I'm sure you'll understand that until I get this sorted out, I'm somewhat busy, so I'm likely to be a bit scarce. If you do email or message me, assume I've got it and *please* don't chase!
I'll let you know when I can safely come back up for air.

P.S. I have listened to plenty of lectures about backing up to 'the cloud' in the last few nightmarish days, thank you and yes, I shall be completely overhauling my backup procedures, despite having thought that I *DID* have a good backup plan in place already. You live and learn.
