Redshirt! – Doom on the Romulan Border was a Star Trek TOS'ish Sci-Fi crawl I ran at Recon 2015 in Orlando, Florida last April. A little late… but please, find images and a write up of the construction and components used to build it. For building a really big customized layout (filling two, staggered 8 foot long tables) I would recommend this technique as a cheap and effective alternative to market ready room and hallway sections or modular components currently available. Easily adaptable to a Fantasy Dungeon crawl….which I'll be trying out next! redjak.com/blog2

Nice layout-the control board and chairs are my favorite |

Fantastic looking game! I moved away from the Orlando area around 6 years ago and Have just been transferred back onto the state. I am kind of bummed that I have been stockpiling bits for a similar game since I left (using the guts from old VCR players) I don't think I could compete with a game as cool as yours looks. Will you be running it at Hurricon in the fall? Jim |

That's excellent! I love TOS based games. There aren't very many, but this one's great! |

Nice! You really put a lot of work into that. |

Love your work. Thanks for sharing your pics. The terrain looks superb! Love the furniture/chairs/control panels, as well as the engineering panels and viewscreens too. They are very well done! Just noticed the paperclip climbing rails as well – those look great also, as does all the other stuff, e.g. minis, casualties, transporter, flooring, etc. The "Romulans" look a bit different than I recall from TOS though. |

Looks excellent, except the aliens are not "rubber suity" looking enough. ST could never afford those with their budget! |

How do you keep the various sections of the building together during gameplay? |
JSchutt | 13 May 2015 2:46 a.m. PST |
alex757 I have'nt missed a Hurricon since they began! If I'm there… I'll be running it. Mako11 I leave the layout up and exposed to view the whole game. Things are happening to Kirk that they need to see and are communicating with him anyway. The premise is that they have been briefed on the layout of Outpost 27 and would know what it looks like. I place invaders throughout but that does not mean that more or less will be not be there when they get to any particular corridor or room. Thanks for the kind words. |

Great looking game! I like the Blog entry also. Can you add a subscribe function as I'd like to make sure I catch future entries? |

Was lucky enough to have seen this game in person at Recon 2015 in Orlando . While I never was able to play in it due to the waiting list . I was able to do a number of drive bys to check on the status of those poor Red Shirts that we all grew up with on the original S.T.show that rarely seemed to make the return trip to the Enterprise . Figures were great , the structure well laid out and details where intresting from the flashing Power Globe to the Disco-y gold fabric used in the transporter. All in all one of the most intresting games at Recon this year . |

High Quality Layout I saw it at Recon 2015 also. It drew lots of spectators and questions. It looks even better in person and even ran an extra session by poplular demand. |

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear with my question. How do you keep the various corridors, and room sections of the base from being bumped, or moved accidentally during game play? Do you use clips, magnets, or something else to keep them together, or is placement on a fabric cover sufficient to prevent movement from occurring? |
JSchutt | 14 May 2015 2:49 a.m. PST |
Mako11 I agonized over how to hold the sections together only to find the large rooms were too big to move about and the liberal placement of Hirst Arts plaster castings gave the corridor sections all the weight they needed to stay in place. The heavyweight black tablecloths kept things from moving about also. So…nothing was used to hold them together. Convention tables being what they are was a bigger problem to alignment than anything…but not enough to worry about. |

This looks amazing! What rules system did you use? I'm putting something together myself and really struggling to find a sci Fi rules set that feels like TOS to me… |
