From Flower to Sapling?

Can a plastic flower become a wargaming shrub? Or maybe a small tree?

Is it me or have GW just brought out Heinlein's Starship Troopers?

Not really. The lower part is obviously mechanical where the SST is a man with his feet on the ground encased in a powered armor suit.

So the IP gaming giant has cannibalised starship troopers and Starcraft themed Space marine type humanoid battle armour?
Or not,

Ping Pong11 May 2015 7:41 a.m. PST

I like the deep sea suit robots.

The castellan design is decades old. Like 1980s old. it was one of three robot designs in an old White Dwarf.

The new one does look more humanoid with a smaller torso and more centered head instead of forward on the torso.

I see more of Robbie the Robot myself. YMMV of course.

Zargon11 May 2015 9:37 a.m. PST

Never be as cool as the original.

Weasel11 May 2015 9:45 a.m. PST

I sort of like the new design, but gotta agree with Zargon. The old ones were fantastic.

Actually, I give GW credit on this one for creating something that, while it is a new sculpt, nevertheless harkens back to the Rogue Trader original.

dsfrank11 May 2015 12:57 p.m. PST

There is nothing new under the sun (but some of it is executed better that others)

Weasel11 May 2015 3:54 p.m. PST

Yeah, it's nice to see something that's a deliberate callback.

95 parts! wow…

BTW how is this model any more like STT MI than any other power armor and/or robot?

Gaz004512 May 2015 7:32 a.m. PST

95 parts and 42 quid each………..incredible!

Edit -42 quid for two and a controller………..

Pictors Studio12 May 2015 8:54 a.m. PST

The old one looks more power armour-y. The new one looks more like a robot. I think I do like the new one more.

The price isn't too bad. At $69 USD you get two dreadnought sized robots and a character. So $30 USD each plus $9 USD for the guy isn't bad.

Its widely accepted that GW's Space Marines are already inspired from Starship Trooper. Actually, pretty much everything GW does can be traced back to someone else's creations. :-P
