Finally got the mahouts complete for the elephants. They are just Wargames Foundry mahouts with green stuff jackets.I know that technically they are probably not correct, nor are the elephant harnesses or even the limbers for that matter. But what the heck,we really aren't in 1879 anymore.Or are we?

I obviously misspelled Afghan in the title. Always seem to do that. |

The first metal figures I ever saw were in a hardware store in Durham in the early 1970's. At the time Airfix figures were 2/11d so the fact that the Hinchliffe 20mm equipment set of the 40 lber with two elwphants and limber was (I think) over £2.00 GBP was a bit hard to comprehend. I never had one then but now I have about 8 or 9 sets, picked up on ebay and elsewhere, some the variation with the 6.3" howitzer. Have I over compensated?

Those Rock! Very nice. Are those from the Foundry Indian Mutiny range? JB |

Yes SGT they are. I was lucky to get different heads for them as I had bought a bunch of them at online ebay auction and wasn't sure exactly what I was getting. I thought at times I had really screwed the elephants up. First I thought they were too grey and I painted them light brown. It came out a tan color and looked awful. Then I washed them in a grey color. Then lots of washes later I finally for some reason thought to wash them in yellow ochre (a landscape liquid pigment wash from Woodland Scenics). It looked terrible and I thought when they dried I would spray paint them and start all over. But amazingly it dried in a kind of a natural earthy grey brown and I was finally happy.Could never duplicate the process again but I did four elephants that way, so once I get the next two mahouts done they will become the lead elephants. |

Rhingyll, I think the elephants look perfect. I find painting man made things much easier than anything in nature. I have (2) myself to build and paint, one of these days….. Cheers, JB |

Wow, you went through a very elaborate painting process indeed on those elephants, Rhingyll, but the end product looks great! Also very impressive job on sculpting the jackets on those mahouts from scratch with Green Stuff! I'd be happy to add them both to my Second Afghan War artillery train! |

MG – I am hopeless with green stuff but luckily I have a friend who used it extensively and he is my go to guy now for conversions. He put "clothes on them" as he says and I painted them. |
