Is it OK to point & laugh at them? Not really a 'personal attack' as I agree, it is simple minded to pursue some sort of vendetta via the internet.

I try to post there. Very rarely I succeed. Ten minutes later I try again and my IP is considered SPAM and blocked.
They are mechanically unable to accept new members. I say mechanically because I suspect no electronics are involved.
There is a thread over there lamenting that. No one can join. You are not being singled out.

If you did succeed in posting something, it would give you false encouragement and you would try again and fail.

The above is for once not anti Frothers bile and propaganda on my part but a simple statement of fact.
It's a hopeless task.

No, that's not what happened. The log-in system is borked and the admin, the Doc, is pretty much AWOL. The best bet is to post as a guest, but it seems like that's also getting messed up thanks to an outdated spam-filter. You can fill out the form, but some goat-bleeper filled the deposit box with spambots.

The Frothers have asked him to borrow an account so he can go there.

I don't wish to be Mr negative, but does anyone else really not care about any of this, I was completely unaware of any ructions between TMP and Frothers, and it impacts not a jot on my 'TMP experiance' And, as they are two toy soldier sites, isn't it all a ickle bit, well, pathetic?

Not at all. I suspect that most in the know suspect that actually, in a room together, TMPers and Frotherses would get on famously like lifelong chums. And break out the minis, pretzels and beverages and lark on till they dropped or their wiveses/womenfolk came looking for them….

Now That is positive thinking ! Maybe not too realistic, but everyone is entitled to an opinion or in this case thinking "happy" thoughts. [I on the other hand have a long memory and carry a grudge … and a big stick ! ]

Anyway, yeah, Frothers has an issue atm – I'm a member, but I've only posted once. To point out that a new GW spaceship looked a little like Bruce Forsyth. So nothing particularly constructive.

Well I was making a historical parallel to Teddy Roosevelt's, "Walk softly and carry a big stick." statement … link We still talk history around here, yes ? And War gaming and the Wars it parallels is full of physical violence, yes ? Not to mention you could carry a big stick to help you walk if you're a bit lame. I limp because of a certain degenerative malady. So probably sooner than later I'll need a cane or walking stick. Or Big stick … to walk …

A fools errand over something dubbed a war, it seems to me this "war" be no more than building forts out of tree branches and your mates doing the same over on the other side of some bush land (I think I was ten at the time). Then on occasion lobbing pine cones at each other and making explosion and shooty noises, the odd theatrically staged death or wounding adding a sense of drama.

Dont forget to leave your stick and broom handle guns at the door when you enter the meeting room and frisk for pine cones before sitting down for the talks.

Inspired by idle curiosity and boredom (I have a surprisingly light work load for a Monday. The nasty weather we had must have kept the criminals from getting arrested!) I went over to Frothers and read the last week or so of posts on their epic length anti-TMP thread. I was rather surprised to see that I was mentioned a couple of times. Apparently, I have a fan over there. He was throwing around the usual slurs and meaningless emotional buzzwords that I've heard more times than I care to count. I have been called far worse by far better. So it was mostly amusing on a pathetic level than anything else. Folks like that, really need to get some fresh material…

More to the point, reading through the thread gave me a little insight into the inconstancies and general wrong headedness of the "grievances" they seem to have, as well as the general mentality in that place. For example the denizens of that thread seem to regard Armintrout as some sort of tyrant who "censors" opposing views in a draconian manner. This is a laughable view. As I've pointed out before, one of the biggest failings of TMP is how lax the moderation actually is and how trolling, spamming, and other foolishness is turned a blind eye to. I wonder how the Frother kiddies would handle a tightly run forum that keeps members on a short chain, if they think this place is bad. They simply have no perspective.

In any event, they also show themselves to be inconsistent and hypocritical. On one hand they slam Armintrout as a "censor", but in the same breath they condemn and express faux-outrage at the existence of political and social views they object to. One of their "grievances" is that he does not keep a tighter reign on views they object to. Amazing stuff. Some folks are just irony-proof.

Ah well.
If anything my little field trip just confirms my view that Frothers is just 4chan for a different demographic and that like that site, it's yet more proof that children should not be given un-supervised access to the 'net. ;-)

If you feel I made the wrong call, you can always bring the matter up in TMP Talk for a general discussion.

I can assure you that he does not react aggressively to all of my reports. Some get rebutted via PM and others just ignored. I get no special or preferential treatment by any means. You are just seeing the ones that were severe enough for him to act upon.

My point that there seems to be an upswing in trolling and other bad behavior of late remains.

Bill needs to stop going to Frothers looking to see what they are saying over there, and especially to stop bringing comments from there back here to 'report on'. Leave it there. 9/10 people here will neither know nor care what someone's opinion is on Frothers, and in many cases (following the other thread here about opinions) it is just opinion.

It would be good if Frothers (and it is only certain individuals – most of the site is blissfully unaware of the conversations that take place in the Froth Pot, and generally the base language is concentrated there) would refrain from trying to stir up trouble, but that is down to the moderation (or lack thereof) there. Leave it alone any they will get bored and find something else to talk about. Or not. Does it really matter? The problem is less about the comment, and more about the reaction and counter-reaction which keeps it going. DH or kick off trolls (on the basis of trolling, not any other purpose), disallow conversations intended to stir up confrontation due to something that was said somewhere else, and leave it at that.

Much like the Middle East, and peace talks rely on both sides wanting peace, and that means not taking constant little swipes, and ignoring the odd poke from the other side. You can't make the other side do it, but you can go a long way towards it by getting your own house in order.

I'm not a site staffer. I have no moderation or editing powers. I just do what a responsible member of the TMP community should do and hit that little "report" button when I see content that is violation of the rules of the site.

I follow the rules. Everyone else should have to as well.

No problem with Trenchraider (or anyone else) hitting the button to report what they see as rule breaches. That's why it is there.

But that should be the limit of it. It's up to the editor/moderators to review it (and it should be reviewed even if deleted, even if they decide to take no action – "oh, I made a racist comment but then deleted it after people saw it but before the editors isn't really a good defence"!) and TMP rules do pretty much state that.

Good points Geoff … in my almost 6 decades on this planet. I can't remember how many times "Mid East Peace Talks" came about and after all the hope … sooner or later … they were shooting and killing each other again …

And as you noted those few "persons" at F/site who are the bashers, mean spirited bullies on the play ground, etc. … could care less. There is probably only about a dozen or so. Which in my estimation is a small overall precentage of the entire site. And as I have said before being on the recieving end of their BS, etc. … They have no reason to not continue to be the demented, bitter, etc. types they are. They have no reason to change as they dislike a number of us here. For no other reasons than they dislike our views, comments and even nationality. As Bill pointed out to me.

As I have said before the things they said directly about me and others. Appears to have no merit other than to make fun of, bully, stating out right falsehoods, etc…. Posting homo-erotic pictures, sexually explicit toy dolls, etc., etc., which as an adult. I found very juvenile and insulting.

And when I made my feelings known here. I was attacked by many and even claimed I threatened violence. But … In fact to no one directly. Are some so narcissistic to think they are so self-important and yet so numb to think that anyone would actually fly all over the world and hunt these s down ? Are they that important that anyone would waste time, effort and money on them for such an over-the-top endeavor ? Really ??!?!? Are they that paranoid, and not in touch with reality to think such trash talking and over statements were anything but an attempt at dark humor, bravado, machismo, etc. ?

I bring this all up to remind everyone what we are dealing with. From not only my standpoint but others here. Some said I was lucky Bill did not DH or dump me from TMP. The reason is simple … he was on the receiving end of their crap, etc. … And felt the same way I did and do … Why some think these types even care to think about some sort of fence mending is beyond not just me … but others here. Lets drop it and move on … and leave the children at the kiddie's table …

The problem there is that, ultimately, they don't want peaceful co-existence. Each side just wants the other to leave and each believes they are justifiably right in doing so.

There's more than just two "sides"…

• there are people who troll TMP and/or have sock puppet accounts, some of whom are known to be Frothers
• there are the Frothers who are TMP exiles
• there are Frothers who have little TMP contact
• there are Frothers who are also TMPers
• there are TMPers with little Frothers contact
• there are people who troll Frothers, and seem to have some connection with TMP

I wasn't talking about TMP…
