I've got a bunch of Prussian artillerymen mounted with their guns. Should I hit the picklehaubs with a gloss finish?

If they are not wearing a cloth cover then yes;
The pickelhaube was made of leather with a black lacquer finish.

Thanks, my 1870 gunners will get glossy head gear.

Yup.

They are the Old Glory 15 gunners. I think you sculpted them, Perris. Nice work.
