THE WEEKEND 2015 SCHEDULE IS FILLING UP.
This is the sixth year for this popular convention in the Lancaster PA area. The emphasis is on friendship, fun, food, games, camaraderie, games. We all look forward to meeting and playing with old friends and making and meeting new ones.
Below are some of the games we have registered for "The Weekend" Convention on the 18th to 21st of June. These games will be on Firday (19th) and Saturday (20th). The 18th in the evening is our kick-off dinner and on Sunday we have our "breakup breakfast for the last bit of socializing.
GAMES SO FAR. We expect more.
"The Saga Event, or Non event" GM: Ralph Krebs and others. Ralph brings back several armies and battles in this wonderful game.
"Wings of War: Wings of Glory" GM: Mack Tuck
"Pirates of the Carribbean, with zombies." GMs: Bob and Cleo Liebl. Bob and Cleo take the Carribbean theater of war in this theme year of the Wars of the 18th century.
"World War Two Action in Europe" Gm: Jim Mcwee. Jim said he was going to do something with Super Heroes and Zombies, but lately said he wanted to do something from WWII. We shall see.
"Jayne's Frightening Ships 1937" GM: Otto Schmidt A raider problem in the North Atlantic, come and hunt for the Shnorhorst and Gneisenuff with this simple game system.
"Jayne's Frightening Ships 1937" GM: Tracy Johnson with something in the Pacific. Tracy is unsure yet. This will use the miniatures from Axis and Allies, adapting them to the game system.
"The next installment of the Chronicles of Leonardo" Gm: Peter Frechtling, another fantastic game of Leonardo DaVinci and the inquisition pursuing him.
"The Battle of Spaghettiburg" GM Gary Richards- American Civil war. Eight roads, one town, lots of troops (excellently painted too, won the Painting contest twice!
"The Crossing of the Mighty Mortadella:" GM Victor Schmidt. Imagi-Nation Action of the Folwarkian War of Succession fought between Schleswig-Beerstein und Saxe Burlap and the white coats of Flounce in the Land O' Goshen."
"Multi-table Campaign in the eighteenth century. Six table tops and troops moving between them as they engage in a war of detachments in this model of a campaign in the height of the 18th Century. Lots of troops, lots of situations, fun and silliness galore." GM: Otto Schmidt.
""The Mary Jemison Raid" from the French and Indian War will represent our North American part of the fighting in the Seven Years War. The GM is Bill Molyneaux.
"A Meeting Engagement, Eastern Front, 1942" GM: Bob Ricigliano. Bob is recovering from an injury and this is a tentative commitment, but we hope and pray that he will be better either way.
"Godebusch, Swedes versus Danes in 1712" GM: Bill Gray, using Age of Eagles. This game was a great success and wonderfully spectacular at "The Weekend" in 2013.
"Ukraine 2017" GM: Steve Lucianetti puts on a game "ripped from the Headlines." Steve says this will be "a board game but on a larger scale."
"French and Inian War" GM: Eric Turner. The details of this are not yet compelted but Eric has pledged this as part of the theme on the Seven Years War
"The Pope on a Rope(Renaissance back-stabbing) – 28mm Rules: Pike & Shotte" Gms" George Garifo and Ben Varas. They may have to substitute something other in WWII or the Renaissance, but I couldn't help myself and lead with this one. Wish I thought of the title myself.
"The Weekend" is a small convention held at The Continental Inn 2285 Lincoln Highway East (Route 30 E) in Lancaster PA. 17602. 717-299-0421, right across the street from the Lancaster Host.
"The Weekend" is a different kind of convention on a different model, and focus' on friends, friendship, fun, games, good times and socializing. One feature of the convention is that many of our attendees, if not most are game designers and artists and frequently playtest their games here before bringing them to the larger cons. We have no venders, but we have a Free table and a Bring and Buy table. The games are always fun, and a bit off-kilter, as with Mike Lorenzo's now famous "Frederick the Great invades Candyland".
There is no cost for the convention if you stay at the Continental Hotel. For walkups and people who stay elsewhere we ask a $10 USD donation. The room rates at the Continental are $89 USD for a double up to a quad for $109. USD Please check the hotel for other rates. This is of course plus the graft and plundering that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania calls "plus tax." There is a full breakfast (not a continental breakfast) in the dining room Friday and Saturday.
We have an "Off the table Painting Contest" and an "Off the table Modeling Contest" as well. By the generosity of one patron we are able to bring back MST2000 , a flagship event where we get to see, and cut up, like the robots on it's namesake "Science Fiction Theater 2000" who has offered to pay the exhorbitant licensing fees at the Motion Picture Licensing Association. These films ain't your greats, but two of the worst most abominable turkeys we could find.
There's a muinchie table, lots of fun and friends, and a kickoff dinner on the 18th, which this year will be at the" Knight and Day Restaurant" in Lititz PA.., just a few short minutes from the hotel.
"The Weekend" started as a result of the dissatisfaction with the large conventions. We all come to conventions to meet people and friends we see but three times a year, but in the big "cons" we could never do that. Schedules and commitments conflicted and multiplied so that the most we got to do was simply say "Hey! Howaya!" "Fine! Nicetaseeya" and that was that.Socializing was impossible because this person had to tend his booth, that one was in a game, the other one also had a game, but at the same time when the first one wanted to do lunch, and we never got to do what we really wanted to do, which was sit down, play, crack open some beers, and enjoy the company of our friends. So we all wanted to have a wargame weekend at our houses, but none of us had a house large enough to accommodate it, and when we compared notes we found we all had a lot of the same friends, so we hit on the idea of piling into a hotel for a weekend where we would have the room. "The Weekend" is the result. We have a 5,000 sq ft ballroom with plenty of space, and all our friends are in that one room, so you can find them. There are few conflicts of events and we have a munchies pit packed with beer, wine, sodas, snacks, and comfy chairs to sit and talk, gas, tell tall tales, brag, gossip, and tell jokes. Of course this is where the GM's look to press-gang you for a game, so watch out! The games are always new and different, as we have a lot of creative people.

It would be useless the moment the convention started, but we publish this, which is a booklet that has battle reports of every game played, and articles and features too, so it Is a meaningful record of what happened and who was there.
The cost is so low because all we want to do is make our expenses. We aren't interested in building up an organization, or creating a magnificent edifice or "Want to take it to the next level. We just want to meet, and game, and socialize with our friends.
So come and play with us. It's a nice, relaxed convivial convention with none of the hurly burly atmosphere of the other cons, and you'll be treated to some high class games.
