Apparently the US Congress has decided to continue to support the A-10 fleet link My impression is that the move to retire the A-10 fleet was by the Air Force big wigs – was the idea that the F-35 could do the tasks the A-10 is supposed to do? While I am no fly-boy it seems to me I would much rather be in an A-10 than a F-35 if I was flying low and slow and taking on ground targets |

Doesn't this belong on the A-10 message board? |

I have heard mixed things about the A-10. For example it is one of the cheapest planes the US has in terms of cost to maintain and run, it is also hardy and tough. But at the same time against any competent defense their casualties are likely to be high. I have heard mixed reviews about the F-35 as well. But they certainly are a lot more expensive to maintain. I wonder if the maintenance costs are part of the issue? |

Get a copy of "How to Make War" (latest Edition,) and go to pages 159 – 161. Very enlightening how who dropped what bombs and how many to support troops in the (whatever they call it now) CAS role in Afghanistan. Nothing like a 2,000 bomb guided by a laser to open up a bunker pinning you down. EDIT: TITLE IS "How to Make War : A Comprehensive Guide to Modern Warfare in the Twenty-First Century." |
