Chas is just remoulding and updating the BMP-1P, and looking at adding the BMP-1PG.

Any idea where/when this was in service and to what extent?

Not sure about the designation of BMP-1PG is, but I find mention of BMP-1Ps armed with 9M111 "Fagot" and another armed with 9M113 "Konkurs". Perhaps the "PG" version is one of these?

Made in USSR, tank factory in Ishewsk. Developed in 1966. Manufacturerd from 1966-1982. Used by USSR/CIS/Russia, Afghanistan, Algeria, Bulgaria, CSSR, Cuba, East Germany, Egypt, Ethiopia (got to climb all over one there),Finland, Hungary, India, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Mongolia, North Korea, North yemen, Poland, Syria, Yugoslavia.

BMP-2 production started in 1974.

The BMP-1P was with the AT-3 Sagger (Malyutka) replaced by AT-4 Spigot (Fagot) or AT-5 Spandrel (Konkurs)

The BMP-1PG was the BMP-1P fitted with an AGS-17 grenade launcher to the left side of the turret.

I looked it up. The BMP-1PG is a -P that can be armed with a 30mm AGL.

Edit: Wikipedia has a variants page, where you can find more info on the -PG link

I know what it is. The question was when and where it was used :-)

I have a date of 1993, possibly pulled from the Yahoo TO&E discussion group. It's not in the 1991 version of FM 100-2-3. Isn't a BMP-2 with a roof mounted AGS-17 called a BMP-3 in Twilight 2000?

Found it, in Zaloga's "Soviet/Russian Armor and Artillery Design Practices: 1945 to Present". 1993 upgrade to BMP-1P adds grenade launcher and BMP-2 powertrain and suspension components.

Excellent, thank you.

If anyone comes across any data on how they were used… one per platoon, whole company upgrades, export option only, never produced, it would be most welcome.
