"New research shows that modern humans settled Europe in two waves along distinct routes, coincidentally arriving about the time the Neanderthals disappeared, writes Darren Curnoe. Fossils and DNA strongly suggest we shared a common ancestor with them, genetic clocks placing the split between us in the range of 550,000 to 765,000 years ago. Our fascination stems from the fact they are our closest evolutionary cousins; we have hundreds of fossils from them, so have a pretty good idea what they looked like; and they were the first extinct human species we knew about, with Neanderthal bones found discovered in the first half of the 19th century…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

Current DNA testing indicates that Homo Sapiens also cross-bred with Neanderthals. |

This is one of those topics that seems to swing like a pendulum back and forth between 'we killed them all' and 'no, we married 'em'. I suspect it was really a combination of both. :) -Will |

Married some, killed the rest? Sounds like modern times. |

How dare you guys insinuate such things! All early hominids and ancestors of modern Man (Neanderthal, Erectus, Denisovan, Sapiens) were all gentle, peace-loving, spiritual people, with a deep reverence for all life, who never competed with each other for the vast natural resources available in ancient times! :) And any teeth marks on remains found were all from "love bites". :) Evil was first introduced into the world by later Europeans and their descendants, or so we are taught these days.
