All this to say that this material should probably be treated with circumspection if not downright superstition. That is one odd story. It reminds me of The Island of Doctor Moreau. Vivisecting animals and men into man-beasts and so on. I wonder if H.G. Wells was inspired by newspaper yarns like this example?

I see they refer to the legendary Chinese wild man as the Deren, but I thought it was Yeren.

I'm sure there is some secret Chinese herb that makes the graft work. Why spoil a yarn with pesky scientific quibbles?
