Hurrah! I wonder how much of the original is left and how much is 'new' timber. |

Ships during their lives frequently recieved new timbers to repair wear and tear and battle damage, the Victory is today as valid a piece of wood as when she was built. I do suspect there are some bits that Nelson walked on though! |

There is a metal plate on the deck saying "Nelson fell here" I'm not surprised I slipped on the plate myself. Yeah..I know..very corny..Sorry.!! won't do it again. |

It's all still original, really, honest. The only thing new are the wooden bits |

Nope, that's not true, most of the guns are fibre glass! |

Whether old or new – she's still a thing of real beauty and majesty |

Last survey I saw suggested 30-40% original timbers. Basically, the lower down the ship you go, the more likely it is to be original timber from the period. Mark Barker The Inshore Squadron |

It is what she is as a whole and what she represents. New bits where added to her after Trafalgar. She had a refit before 1805. She is a thing of beauty. I'm lucky to say I have been aboard her lots of times, frist time at the age of 7 (1963). She may not look her best now. No top masts or bow spit. No one seeing her as they walk along the road in the dockyard say's " Oh dear! she has new bits and looks wrong". I saw her 3 weeks ago (Alas not on board). Be safe Rory |

The amount of pubs in Hampshire that claim the timbers in them came from Victory would suggest there must have been about 15 of them ;) |
